Question about 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Gauges all instrument panel gauges do not work and cruise control does not work. this includes temp, tack, speedometer, odometer, mileage, fuel and the only thing on the overhead console that works is the direction and temperature. When these are not working the ABS light is on and the check engine light. AutoZone has done the check engine test and it says it must be a computer problem because it does not detect anything on theirs. I also took it to a garage and they told me if it is a computer problem a diagnostics check may not help because the computer in the van might not talk to their computer. Can you give me any suggestions.

Check for 12-volt power to the control modules and make sure they are properly grounded. If this checks out okay, the dash cluster is likely your problem. The body control module (BCM) is also known to cause this, as well as the data bus between all the modules.
A properly trained mechanic with a DRB III scan tool as well as the data bus manual for your van may be able to diagnose your problem.
You could try changing the instument cluster or looking for loose or weak solder points. If you strike the dash at various places to the lights on the dash blink?
Changing the BCM requires reprogramming the VIN in the new BCM to match the VIN of your vehicle, this is done with the DRB III tool.

    it is possible if the problem was on the car system, you need to put your car on the authorized service center of the car that you have, coz they had the exact system to detect the errors..

My 2002 Saturn L100 odometer stopped working and isn't clocking miles at all.


Odometer
The odometer is an electronic digital display. Digits displayed are illuminated by the odometer backlight bulb. The odometer backlight bulb brightness is controlled by class 2 messages from the BCM to adjust the display for daylight and instrument panel dimming operation. The trip odometer and total odometer will show in this display area. The push button in the lower right side of the speedometer is used to toggle between the trip and total odometer readings. To reset the trip odometer, push and hold the button down for at least two seconds. The total odometer display has six digits with no decimal display. The trip odometer has four digits including a decimal point and indicates tenths of a mile or kilometer.
The body control module (BCM) stores the vehicle mileage. If the BCM fails, the cluster will display the last valid mileage that was sent before the BCM failed. For replacement of the BCM refer to the BCM section of this service manual. Replacement instrument clusters do not require odometer pre-setting before installation. If the instrument cluster is replaced, the mileage stored in the BCM will be sent to the new cluster via serial data, and shown in the odometer display.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

Doesnanyone have a diagram showing where the wires on a speedometer connect to? I need to see if i pulled it on accident. And fuel gauge. Im learning so pictures are easier. Thx 2001 chevy tahoe


The speedometer gauge is controlled by information sent over the class 2 data bus from the PCM/ECM - engine computer . There is a VSS - vehicle speed sensor mounted on the transmission , this VSS is a input to the engine computer .
Speedometer
The IPC displays the vehicle speed based on the vehicle speed signal from the PCM. The IPC- instrument panel cluster receives the vehicle speed signal via a discreet wire. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit (4000 pulses/mile) from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal circuit (4000 pulses/mile) exists.
Is the whole instrument cluster dead ?
Fuel Gauge
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gauge defaults to empty if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.
When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the low fuel indicator illuminates.

Hourmeter
The IPC can display the accumulated engine run time hours using the VF display when the cluster is in the LOCK or ACC position. The IPC stores the accumulated engine run time hours in a non-volatile format. The accumulated hours will not change if the battery was disconnected or removed. When the ignition is OFF and the trip reset switch is pushed in and held for more than 4 seconds, the IPC will display the accumulated hours for 30 seconds. The hourmeter will reset to 0.0 when 10,000 hours are accumulated.
Odometer
The IPC contains a season odometer and a trip odometer. Momentarily press the trip/reset switch on the IPC in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip/reset switch for greater than 2 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The IPC displays the vehicle mileage and trip mileage as determined by the IPC. The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The odometer can be configured to display either miles or kilometers.
PRNDL Display
The IPC displays the selected gear position as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the transmission range switch circuit.

My mph, gas, and temp gauges are not working


That's why you don't let you husband work on your car ! Unless he does it for a living .. For MPH there is a VSS - vehicle speed sensor , for the gas there is a sending unit in the fuel tank, for the temp. gauge there is a temp. sensor located in coolant stream on the engine .You more then likely need to have you instrument cluster repaired . GM had a problem with step motors inside the instrument cluster . A step motor is what controls the individual gauge. The sensors are all inputs to the PCM - powertrain control module (engine computer ) .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to C or below if:

The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Fuel Gage

I have a 2010 Chevy impala LS instrument cluster and it has a 20 pin plug I'm trying to figure out which wire's on the back of the cluster are for the speed sensor, rpm, gas, and temp wires.


Boy your way off base . All the gauges are inputs from the ECM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor , ETC - engine coolant temp sensor , sending unit in the fuel tank , All this sensors input the engine computer . The PCM then sends this info on the GMLAN serial data bus ,communications network . The Instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside that translates this info an controls the gauges. You probably have an instrument cluster problem or a communication network problem . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the engine control module (ECM). Instrument cluster is going crazy


The instrument cluster is what holds your speedometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge, odometer, etc. You can get one from a scrap yard. Call around to local scrap yards and ask them if they have any cars that are the same model as your's. Some scrap yards will have already pulled parts and have them available for purchase.

Keep in mind that when you go to sell the vehicle, you need to inform the buyer of the situation with the cluster and that the mileage on the odometer does not reflect the actual miles.

If the speedometer and odometer are not working the problem is usually lack of signal from the transmission speed sensor.
But if the cruise control works and the speedometer does not, my guess would be a problem inside the cluster.

Blown Fuse or fried Circuit board. Take to a local AutoZone, Advance, Murray's, O'reillys or a similar part house for them to check the wiring. I'm assuming the van does not use a mechanical Speedometer or Fuel Gauge.

On the plus side, with no speedometer, your indicated odometer mileage does not increase. Just keep your speed down and your tank full. Kidding, just kidding.
