2002 Dodge dakota extra cab 4.7 4x4 trans slipping at higher speeds

My truck seems to be slipping or something at higher speeds mostly noticed it on the freeway between 65 and 75 mph. I have noticed it doing it alot in OD. The rpm changes to higher than back to normal, is not doing it constant. It has done it it in other gears but not has frequently as OD. On city streets it drives normal that i have also noticed. Could it be the speed sensor?

2001 dodge deisel 4x4 auto trans. Noticed it was shuttering some when slowing down. Got on highway at 65 mph and would not shift to OD. Then it stopped pulling at all. Got stopped and it would not pull at all. After cooling it started pulling but not much. The trans wasn't completely cool yet. The fluid doesn't smell burned. I have had a problem sometimes it wouldn't shift. After shutting truck off and restarting it worked fine. I do need to replace the throttle position sensor but I do t know if that would cause this.

Had this happen on my 2001 Dakota. It was the throttle position sensor, replaced it and now runs good. Tranny shop did it.

Don't know about the speed sensor. My '02 Dakota Quad = Cab Sport (2-wheel drive) does the same. Have no idea.

Transmission flush for a 2003 dodge dakota

If you were told not to change the fluid,
then the trans is burnt & needs a rebuild

I would never flush a trans, too much work to
disconnect lines & your asking for trouble doing
so, as well as possibly flushing debris where it shouldn't
be, like into the solenoids

If you never changed the fluid every 3 years the trans is
most likely done, only reason to be told not to change it

If you change it ,it will slip worse or start slipping

Keep driving it or pull it & rebuild it

2000 Dodge Dakota vibration while driving

sound like the u-joints in the driveshaft. Lay under the truck and where the u-joints are try moving the driveshaft up and down. If it moves then the u-joints are bed. This will cause a tremendous vibration under a load and the faster it spins it will smooth out.

Rpm's jump up 200-400 in overdrive and when doing over 55 mph hwy

The rpm variation you are noticing is the torque converter slipping in and out of lockup. Most likely the torque converter clutch is failing, you will most likely need a new converter, if it's got a bunch of miles on it I'd probably freshen up the clutches while I had it out.

2002 vw jetta tdi - problem with rpm gauge?

Hi, Did you notice the motor actually reving higher when the tachometer was reading a higher rpm.. If it was it could be your transmission slipping.. Set your cruise control and listen to your motor while the tachometer starts moving erratically.. Good Luck
