Is it the 4.0 litre? model and if its in the transmission you should be fine with just a transmission. if you think something is wrong with the engine best to cut open the filter and see how much metal is in there if any. you can send out oil/fluid samples to places for a price (it was $50 back when i worked for a shop) they could tell you things like if you piston ring is in your oil antifreeze pieces of valve anything pretty neat.

this should be all youd need and someone to install it

The I6 4.0 engine is coupled to the 42RE transmission. This one only has one internal filter, which you will see when dropping the pan.

How do I locate the transmission shift soleniod. I this a promlem I can fix? Can I get to it without dropping the transmission. Ihave access to an auto shop, or should I take it to a transmission shop?

Its located inside the trans and need to open the drain plug on the transmission oil pan with a socket and drain the oil into a drain pan, then need to remove the bolts that secure the transmission oil pan to the transmission.

Now could you to remove the bolt that holds the transmission dipstick bracket to the bell housing with a socket. You can locate the bolt from the engine compartment. Place a scraper between the transmission pan and the bottom of the transmission and break the seal loose so you can remove the pan.

Remove the defective solenoid by removing the bolt that secures the solenoid to the harness. Three solenoids control the shifting on the Jeep. All have white and yellow wiring harnesses connected to them. The solenoid to the left (towards the Cherokee's engine) controls shifting "overdrive." The solenoid in the middle controls shifts between second and third gear. The third solenoid, closest to the rear of the Cherokee, controls shifts between first and second and between third and fourth. If you know which gear your transmission is stuck in, replace the solenoid that corresponds with that gear. If you are not sure, remove all three. Why you askw about this? Has some symthom or fault code there?

My transmission tries to shift down when i am speeding up and has a hard time doesnt shift up after third gear

Sounds like you have a problem with the governor pressure solenoid inside your transmission I use to work at a chrysler garage and we changed alot of these because if upshifting and downshifting problems the part is rather expensive and is usually accompanied by a full transmission service as the pan has to be dropped and the fluid drained, so people usually change the transmission filter when their doing this job and put new fluid in, remember ONLY USE ATF+4 fluid in your jeep if you use any other fluid you run the risk of transmission damage and shifting problems......

Where is the shift solenoid on a 99 jeep cherokee

There are four solenoids and they are inside the transmission, you must remove the pan from the bottom of the transmission and they are right there bolted to the transmission valve body assembly.

How do I remove 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport oil pan? I drove both front wheels onto ramps and the oil pan was too tight between the transmission and front suspension to pry out. Is there a way to get it out...

The only way to get that oil pan out is to either lift the engine up, lower the front axle down, or remove the transmission and flex-plate. Sorry, I do not mean to be a buzz kill but I would not want to see you waste any more of your time either.

Could be the front main seal or you may want to check the oil pan bolts to see if they have backed off.If the leak is transmission fluid then check the transmission lines and the radiator.

Change transmission fluide in 1999 Jeep Cherokee

To change the transmission fluid you drop the transmission pan should be about 16 bolts. Once that is off you will see the filter. Buy the kit from a local auto parts store and look to see what the filter looks like. Check your transmission fluid once you drain to see metallic look in it if so i would suggest a transmission flush.

Where is the oil pan on a 99 rodeo? i went to change the oil and im not sure but it really looked like transmission fluid when i dropped it

If the fluid was redish - you probably drained the trani fluid.. Trani fluid has to be checked while the engine is running & is messured in pints (not quarts) on the dipstick..
The oil pan is locaed close to center bottom of the engine.. The trani pan is either to one side of the oil pan or behind it tward the back & is flatter looking in shape - than the oil pan..
