Question about 2007 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Immediately after I start my '07 Corolla the idle speed is around at 1,400-1,600. This generally happens in the morning or after work. When that happens if I I let it idle for five minutes it goes down to about 700-800. I generally don't let the car idle for that long but I just tried it before. I should say that when I start it after it's been ridden recently (within a half hour) it runs at what I would consider the normal idle speed (700-800) within 10-20 seconds. For example, if I go up the road for coffee and papers on a Saturday morning it idles normally when I go back out to my car. Could anyone tell me if this initial high idle when I start the car in the morning is a potential problem?

This idle condition is normal for a cold start, the computer is controlling the idle for proper fuel burn. It is not necessary to wait five minutes for the idle to come down. Allow about one minute before putting into gear and driving.

This is correct, The engine has an automatic choke mechanism which adjusts the air/fuel mixture and subsequent idle speed for a cold start,(making the engine rev a little higher) until it reaches normal operating temperature.

Cheque for disconnected vacuum hoses. sometimes this happen after working around the engine, if everything looks good, start the engine press down the accelerator pedal keep the engine running about 2500 rpm for 3 minutes then let the engine idle, if the engine idle this means you need a new idle speed control motor, if the engine still dies most probable the fuel pump it's going out if you have a code reader it's possible you have some codes and this can give a good direction

You need to have the dealer look at this, if you fool around with it you can void your warranty. Toyota looks for any legal excuse to void the warranty.

Toyota 92 model no idle upon initial start up but idle when engine is warm

Engine stalling issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Hi guys, I have a 1989 toyota corolla fx-gt, and when i start it up in the morning, it idles at around 1300-1400 rpm, but after a while, drops to around 1100. When the engine is warm, and has been driven...

first, try to clean your throtle body with a good cleaner an a tooth brush, open buter fly and clean all around, front an rear, when starting it hold your gas pedal down until it starts letgo quickly but keep it running at 2500rpm until engine clears(some smoke may be heavy) this will help with idle problems and clean some carbon from valves and combustion chamber,.second your egr valve may be gettin partially stuck open, disconect hose from top of it, use a small bolt to plug vacum hose and drive it normally if problem doesnot occurs you need a new egr valve,
good luck.

I have a 1991 Corolla FX-GT (AE92). On cold start the engine idles at about 2 - 2.4 krpm. When warm it idles just under 2 krpm. The radiator fan also runs continuously (I understand that this should only...

First of all you have to check emissions, if you have smoke of some sort being emitted then it suggests an incomplete combustion is taking place.
To solve this first you would need to install an ignition booster ( ~250$)
and about the idling its normal for 4age to idle around 2k rpm but If you want to control the idling speed then you can tighten the screw just at the T.V.I.S (intake manifold) at the top right hand side of the unit.
To get better idle speeds you may want to run synthetic engine oil instead of mineral oil due to the viscosity remaining somewhat same (at room and hot temperatures) with synthetic oils.
finally have your A.F.M (Air Flow Meter) or M.A.P(Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor checked and then finally get the computer tuned at a dyno facility through your mechanic and for the computer to be programmed for higher fuel efficiency.
If you want to go further however have copper spark plugs installed.
I own an AE92 FXGT. Its a sweet ride however mine is the 1988 corolla.
