U don't need any air tools

1st remove the axle nuts with a 30mm socket
2nd you put the car on jack stands
3rd You pull apart the entire brake assembly
4th remove the 3 bolts holding on lower ball joint (don't remove strut from steering knuckle it will mess up the alignment of the vehicle)
5th now you can loosen the six axle bolt useing a 8mm triple square drive ( 12 point not the 6 point torx!!)
6th now you pull down the control arm and remove the axle

U need an air compressor ( prefferably) an air gun or really good ratchet, a VERY long extension for ur ratchet/ air gun and a torx bit. Cant remember which size bit it is by heart.

Need an air gun to remove the wheel lug nuts, and then the center bolt from the axle. (think its 32mm)

Then with ur torx bit, remove the 6 bolts around the axle, they are about 4 inches from the tranny.

The extension for ur ratchet needs to be about 30 inches long.
Good luck.

Oh yea, need to remove the ball joint from the A arm as well to be able to pull the knuckle out a bit to make room for the axle.

sounds like you need to have the rear suspension checked for any damage and then a 4 wheel alignment to check rear angles.

Instructions on how to fix 98 golf driver shaft on passenger side

U have to jack the car up on passenger side. Remove the wheel after placing jack stand under car. Remove the axle nut, tie rod end and the remove the bolt that holds the lower ball joint in place. Then take a pry bar to seperate the ball joint from the spindle. You have to tap the axle out of the hub. Than on the axle shaft near the trans. is some bolts that have to be removed with a specil socket that you may be able to get from auto parts store. Remove the bolts and remove the axle. Reverse the procedure to install.

Yes. All straight forward DiY on a Golf except for rear axle beam bushes, lot of work and a ton-press required for those, the shock abs and springs are very easy to replace.

What is actually wrong with your car?
