I would strongly recommend taking the car to a local garage to bet the belt changed it is certainly not a good idea to start a carea or diy hobby in the motor trade by changing one of the most important parts of the engine! if this belt fails 9/10 times your engine will be written off and you'll need a new engine or be in for very costly repairs. I would say your much better off getting a garage to do it I work for a Toyota Dealership and we only charge £250 so a local carriage will probably be £150!

I am serious when I say the cam belt is a dangerous thing to fiddle with when your not sure!
If your not confident don't do it...

Around £250 but go to a vw dealer and let them rip you off of £350 or use a competent garage.

2000 VW passat timing belt replacement

80 000miles(120 000km) is recomended by the dealer but it's safer at 40 000miles(60 000km) its safer for town driving and cold conditions considering the diffirence between a cambelt change and a replacemnet engine and downtime.

Yes you will need special tools for a rear brake job. you will need a set of xzn wrenches large ones say 12 and up to 18 I believe, and you will need a caliper tool that spins and compresses the caliper at the same time
