SOURCE: replace a steering column on 1989 chevy k5 blazer

The best thing to do is to buy a Chilton,s repair manual. It has step by step procedures. You can get one at most auto parts stores. They coast anywhere from $10-$30 dollars.

It *might* also be the ignition switch. I had this happen in my 1988 F150, so I took it apart. The rod is fine, but further down into the dash (you will have to unbolt the column to lower it) is a set of relays. The rod switches it between them to choose what the electricity does, and I think my starter relays ended up broken.

Wiring diagram for the ignition system on a Chevy 1985 truck

The pins in the steering column have either pushed out or worked loose under the plastic covers. If you don't want to tackle taking the column apart and trying to piece it back together, just find a used steering column assembly. It's a very common problem on GM cars and trucks between 1975 and 1997.

99 blazer steering column key is stuck in acc and will not move

o.k... you broke the key off in the cylinder... right... o.k... can you turn the key? it you can... usually you just put the key in the acc position... and just pulls out... now... some ignitions use a pin to keep the cylinder in... just hope you don't have one... because you'll have to pull off the steering wheel and the turn signal switch... just to get to it... them you'll have to get a small screw driver and remove the pin... not easy... any way... just use a big flat head screw driver... and ever so gently... pry out... when you get a new one... reverse the procedure to install... hope this helps man
