Question about Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

Recently replaced the transmission with one from a salvage yard. I have to rev the motor in nuetral before transmission will engage after I do that it works as it should, except when I come to a complete stop sometimes I have to return to nuetral and rev motor again but not always, also seems when the car has been driven awhile and warmed up that problem doesn't occur. Any ideas, I have a thirty day warranty on the transmission, but not looking forward to pulling it out again Ken

The head on the motor you bought is bad; or the head gasket is leaking; or the rings in the 2 center pistons are bad. 30 lbs is far too low of a compression, and 5 lbs is garbage. They should be closer to 80 or 90 psi and not have more that 5% variance between the cylinders.
The first thing you will have to do is pull the head off and check it. Or you can take it back to the salvage yard you got it from, show them the results from the compression test and either get another motor, or have them refund your money.

Transmission replaced with salvaged part now gears won't engage worked for 1 month after install?

You never install salvage yard transmissions or transfer
cases,including a manual trans

A salvage yard is for parts no longer made or rebuilt
& mostly for a hobby or restoration project

They are possibly worn more than the one you replaced

Buy a completely rebuilt factory reman & install it

It doesn't matter about the salvage yard or installer

Your correct, they may be sort of being even employed
in the auto repair field, unfortunately you should have asked
first, about that type of work, repair, etc.

2002 Cadillac deville transmission will not engage. Car will crawl when transmission engaged but that's about it. Is this an expensive fix

Yes, it can be expensive. You can change the filter and fluid and hope for the best, if you haven't already. Next is to get a transmission installed at a salvage yard, get a reconditioned transmission thru a parts store or get a local re-builder with a guarantee.

68 ford f250 c6 coloum shift first would not shifter wouldnt go into park to start truck in it wont go into reverse either u think its linkage or internal

Check the linkage on your steering column, first. You can disconnect it from the transmission, then see if it moves freely.

!998 taurus windshield wiper on the drivers side moves but is out of cink with the passenger side and can hold it still when passenger side is running. something with mechanism.

Your wiper transmission is bad or disconnected. The part with the arms that are moving under the windshield cowling is called a wiper transmission. The main connection to these arms is a pin on the wiper motor which has a clip. The cowling is the area directly under the windshield. You may be able to unscrew the cowling and remove it to access the shaft arms on the wiper transmission.

You may need to remove the wiper motor to get at the clip on the motor. Then each arm is mounted to the base of the cowling. These are the stubs which the wiper arms attach to. Usually the shaft arms are a permanent part of the piece which fits over the motor. But is worth a look at what broke to see how it used to be attached.

If the transmission arms were in a pressed-on fitting, you will either have to replace it or improvise a new connection. The connection will have to be secure, yet not drag on the wiper, and not make noise. That kinda makes a new part or Salvage yard part your options.

By going to a Salvage yard first, you will learn how the part comes off. Gather extra screws for the ones you may drop reinstalling the part. And if you break something on the Salvage car, you will know better when you work on yours.

I hope you found this solution helpful.

Have a 2000 tracker with auto tran. & 4WD. Engine is blown. Can I drop an engine from a 99 Tracker with a manual transmission & 4WD into that with no problem? Both engines are the 2.0L.

If your getting it from a salvage yard they usually have all the info on what motors work on vehicles. From what year and make.Just call a couple of salvage yards up and ask them.Hope this helps.Good luck.
