98 chevy cavalier 2.2 will not crank. It's not the starter or battery as lights, dinging chime, and fuel pump engage...I turn the key and silence.

It sounds like the solenoid isn't sending fire to the coil while cranking. When cranking the voltage comes to the coil from the starter to by pass the coil resistor. Once cranked it starts going through the resistor to keep excess voltage from frying the coil.

It's just above the starter on the front of the engine.

We took the head off an found that the valves are hitting the pistons on my 1997 chevy cavalier 2.2

Only way that can happen is if the timing belt/chain has failed and the cam and crank are no longer in phase with each other.

Where is the crank sensor on a chevy cavalier 97 2.2

Hi,
The crank sensor is on the front (belt) side of the engine. From all the way towards the bottom right behind the crank pulley. You have to remove the vibration damper and pulley to get to it. You can see that it will be having two wires running to it.
Thank you !

Lost crank sprocket key

chk all the tools you used, sometimes one will have just enough magnetism to steal small parts when you aren't looking. chk your solvent pan or in the pully you laid aside. a parts store would have one..
