My 03 protege 5 overheated and blew coolant out the radiator cap, so she limped it home and now it wont start

I have a 98 honda crv that blew a hose which we repaired but now coolant wont o from resevoir into the radiator. Its not overheating but both the malfunction and service engine lights are still on


if it doesn't suck coolant back from the reservoir on cooling down it can be the radiator cap, hose problem to the reservoir or hole in the cooling system
run the fault codes to see what put the engine light on

What could be wrong with my 99 Mazda Protege now? 5 months ago it overheated, replace alternator and belt, now battery wont hold charge and is overheating again, and loosing water coolant.


For a coolant leak you need to check all the hoses and fittings by radiator, heater core, expansion tank for leaks and/or integrity. Also make sure that your water pump is not leaking along with radiator cap and thermostat body. Overheat condition has no effect on battery - if it does not hld charge it is because it is chemically worn out and needs replacement. Until you correct water loss, have extra water in car at all times and run your heater full blast - windows open!!!!

2000 Silverado leaking coolant from under the hood and I cant tell where its leaking from. Truck overheated while driving home and had problems pushing on gas to get home


You will have to check the coolant tank. If you cannot find it by looking around it, it will have to be removed. If you find that it has a leak in it, It will have to be patched or replace. Also check all of the connections to the coolant tank. It could be possible there is a leak in the connections.

Sounds like you have coolant leak if you are loosing coolant or a bad thermostat. I would replace the thermostat, they run about $10. The other fan is an aux fan and will only run when the a/c unit is on.

Waterpump went out and engine got real hot and blew upper radiator hose replaced waterpump and hose now it wont fire


It is very likely the overheating has blown the cylinder head gasket and coolant is getting into cylinders or compression is leaking from cylinder to cylinder or both, you will need to remove the cylinder head and have it checked for warp-age and shaved flat by a machine shop if ness, and replace heat gasket.

My '97 Tahoe overheated and now it won't start


Probably just low on coolant causing air pockets. Start it up with the radiator cap of and add coolant, then check to see if the water pump, intake gaskets, or coolant bypass connector on passenger front corner of the intake manifold is leaking.

It's tough to diagnose a car reading just a few lines online. First off you need to check if your fans were not working which cause the overheating. If you overheated the car to the point where the needle reached the red zone, you most likely have a bent head (since our heads are aluminum) and need to be heated back into shape at a shop. You might not be able to initially start the car due to the "coolant temp sensor" being messed up by this. Change out the thermostat too since that is a cheap replacement. You will also need to check to see if you blew your head gasket. You can check by leaving the radiator cap off and filling the coolant to the top. Then starting the car and see if the coolant starts bubbling and starts to decrease in volume. Depending on how much was involved in the damage, it may not be worth fixing this. I spent a fortune. Hope this helps!
