Question about 1996 Buick Park Avenue

Check engine indicator came on when I was driving. I checked oil level, radiator fluid and they were both normal. Oil changed 2 weeks ago. Could it be the air filter?

Hi!!
Take your vehicle to an AutoZone, Checkers or similar auto parts store for a FREE computer trouble codes retrieval, You'll get a print out of the trouble codes their description and possible cause. This way you'll know exactly what's wrong with your vehicle. If you suspect the air or fuel filters are dirty, replace them, it never hurts to change a filter and is part of the engine maintenance.
Good Luck!!
.A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Best way to find out why it is on is to drop by autozone and have them scan the codes which last time i heard was free. write down what the code(s) are and post them here. the lad (and lasses) there are pretty good at knowing what they are and sharing the information with you.

After driving on the highway for a distance and getting off at an exit or stopping for any reason there is a knocking sound and engine appears to be missing. This doesn't happen with town driving or...

check that the oil level is correct as extra oil foams up and the oil pressure falls. Around town driving does not put a strain on the cooling system but continuous highway driving does and shows up as blocked cores and collapsing bottom radiator hoses. Ignition timing is critical at high speeds so ensure that that is correct. Check that the temperature gauge is accurate as the noise and missing is indicative of an overheating engine.

Ok so my 2001 kia rio ran fine on my trip from nor cal to phoenix, az and ran fine for 3 weeks after. I noticed the oil level was very low when I checked it a few days ago and it started to overheat. I put...

Your engine does not overheat because the oil is low. Do you get heat out of the vents? Check the fluid level in the radiator not the reservoir. Due this with the engine cold. If the radiator is low than you have a leak somewhere. Add coolant to the radiator and see if you can see any abvious leaks. You may need to have the cooling system pressure checked in order to find the leak. If the coolant level is full in the radiator than you may have a bad thermostat. If you get heat out the vents than we can assume the coolant level is full and the water pump is working. When the temp gauge is hot feel the upper and lower hoses. If one is hot and one is cold than the t-stat may be the problem. If there is no heat out the vents and the coolant level is full than you may have a bad water pump. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

1995 Saturn SC2 sputters

pull spark plugs check if any are excessively white or have a mineral deposit. This would indicate a head gasket problem. Also check the oil stick & cap for milky substance, also indicates head gasket. Another thing to check is pull the ignition coil off clean up the rust to get a better ground. Basic tune up changing the plugs & wires, filters ect may solve the sputtering.

Oil level and oil temperature are normal. Oil

Same here....I soon had the same problem after changing the oil..Found out after many tests and research that auto parts stores cross reference a lot of audi oil filters to the vw counterparts..Which do fit audi, but are shorter and lack the oil capacity to feed the engine. Then the pressure light pops on!!!! make sure the larger/longer oe type is installed. If your not sure buy it from audi its not much more than the napa brand.

Oil mixed with water in coolant

Head gasket would be your only problem, the oil cooler normally is cooled by air and not water.

What is the check gauges light

CHECK GAGES light (1) indicates a potential engine failure(low oil pressure, low coolant, coolant overheating) has occurred.
· Check gages and shut down engine. Gages should read as follows: Oil pressure 5 to 10 psi (34 to 69 kPa) at idle; Water Temp gage below 230 degrees (110 C).
· Check engine oil level (Para 2-11) if OIL PRESS gage indicates low reading. Check coolant level (Para 2-11) if Water Temp gage indicates high reading. Notify Unit Maintenance if levels are low.

If CHECK ENGINE light (2) is on, check engine oil pressure gage (3) and water temperature gage (4). If both indicate normal, proceed with mission and then notify Unit Maintenance. If either one does not indicate normal, stop engine immediately and notify Unit Maintenance

My husband and I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora. We just changed the oil about 2 weeks ago. He checked the fluids earlier and the oil was low and the car is running hot. What could be causing this?

If you changed the oil filter at the same time check that it hasnt come loose and leaked some oil though there would be signs of that where the car site. If it is overheating check your water as well.

Also check the oil for water and the water for oil as you will want to make sure that you havent done any head damage or blown the gasket.

Engine light is on.

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon lights to tell you that there is a problem and you should have the car diagnosed and repaired. Not fluid related, but could be a small problem that's easy to fix now. Even a loose gas cap can turn the light on. Have a code scan, that's the starting point.

Tune up check list for 59000 miles

Here is the check list. This should also be in your owners manual.

Inspect Brakes and Traction Control
Drive Belt

Fluid - Differential
Inspect front/rear axle fluid level and add fluid as needed. Inspect constant velocity joints and axle seals for leaking. Replace Engine Oil

Change engine oil and filter as indicated by the GM Oil Life System (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first). Reset the indicator. Never drive the vehicle more than 16 000 km (10,000 miles) without and oil and filter change. The system will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner. Fuel Filter

Oil Filter, Engine

Rotate Tires
