Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango the 5.9L V8 version, Recently I started to have problems with the transmission. It struggles to shift gears when the car warms up. Generally the car will start out great but by the second stop the car will not shift out of second. Am I right in thinking that this is something to do with the Solenoid Shifter? or would there be another issue. This problem came on suddenly and when I changed the transmission fluid the color seemed fairly normal.

I took it in to a Valvoline instant oil change shop and they removed the transmission fluid and then replaced it. I took it in because it suddenly started to have trouble shifting gear.

did the shiftin improve-if not then please run a scan for free at discount A etc-that will tell u if any bad trans codes r present--today shiftin is run by solenoids n electric governors-they may hav to be ajusted or replaced a failin pump would show on a pressure test varnish acumalates with age on clutches from heat or poor cooling and bands r rutinely titened at service

44re 1999 durango won't start from start easily. High RPM and SLOW start (like not in 1st)

the second code is govener pressure sensor. the pressure is to low. the first code is sensor voltage to low, i would check the wiring where it plugs into trans for corrosion. also make sure the kick down cable on the throttle is connected and not broke because this cable controls the line pressure.

My 1999 dodge durango will not shift gears it wants to stay in first gear

you could have an internal mechanical problem with the transmission or the transmission has gone into what is called backup mode and will have to have the tcm checked for codes to check out the problem.

What kind of tranny will work to replace mine?

Yes. They should both be 46RE transmissions and the bolt patterns and the plugs should be the same.

YES SOUNDS LIKE IT IS THE SOLENOID NOT SHIFTING INTO REVERSE OR TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NOT SENDING SIGNAL TO VALVE BODY SOLENOID

Transmission code PO753, how to repair?

PO753 code on a Durango can also be caused by a bad transmision relay in the relay -fuse block behind the battery in the engine compartment. (relay # 31 on 1999 Durango) Before you attempt to replace the 3-4 solenoid, or take to a transmission shop, try changing the relay out with another known good relay, reset the code and try it. I learned this today from an honest transmission shop. Shifts normally again, check engine light is out, and the shop did not charge me a dime. Kudos to Trans Medic in Gresham OR.

Dodge Durango Transmission Problem

Code 0753 means Transmission 3-4 shift solenoid or transmission relay circuit problem. The PCM (engine computer) is seeing an incorrect input electrically for the gear or speed it should be seeing. You will need to find a qualified transmission shop to diagnose the problem. Possible causes for the trouble code start with worn/dirty fluid, electrical repairs & transmission overhaul.

2004 DODGE DURANGO, 5,9L ENGINE

the message is appearing because a sensor in the transmission, usually in the transmission fluid, detects higher than normal temperatures which is usually a result of increased friction which isnt good. I would get the sensor checked before you get the transmission worked on.
