Jag xj6 1996 97 programming the garage door openers

Garage door opener on overhead console in front of sunglass case, trying to reset with new garage door openers..HELP PLEASE

I have jus purchased a 1996 XJ6, typically missing the owners handbook. I am trying to progam my Homelink using the instructions provided, but I cannot find a transmitter on the visor. There is a little black plastic hemisphere on top of the dash near center of the windshield, so I guessed maybe it was that. I tried it, and the indicator light seemed to think the opener was programmed, but it won't operate the garage door. Am I looking in the right spot?

  • JagVirgin May 11, 2010

I tried this procedure when I was first searching, and I was able to get all the correct responses from the indicator light, but it wtill won't operate my garage door. There is nothing on my garage motor unit to suggest that it is a "smart" unit.

The primary issue I seem to be having is actually knowing where the transmitter is located. There doesn't appear to be a transmitter anywhere on the visor, is it located somewhere else? I thought maybe it was the small hemispherical platic nubbin in the center of the dash at the bottom of the windshield. Any clues?

1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.) 2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your visor), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)
jag xj6 1996 97 programming the garage door opener - property_damage_symbol_sm.gif Note: Some garage door openers may require you to replace step 3 with the “cycling” procedure noted in the “View Canadian Instructions” section.
4. Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light.

  • If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released.
  • If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device. A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps.
5. At the garage door opener receiver (motorhead unit) in the garage, locate the “learn” or “smart” button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit). If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener’s manual or contact us. 6. Press and release the “learn” or “smart” button (the name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer). NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step. 7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process.

I want to program the garage door opener for a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that we just bought. How do I do that?

Depends which kind of garage opener you have. But generally, it goes like this:

In car, press and hold 2 outer buttons on overhead console until indicator lights start flashing.

Hold desired button you want to program garage opener with until lights begin to flash rapidly.

At the garage door receiver in the garage, press the "learn" button. (Mine was located under one of the plastic light covers; it is purple in mine, can be other colors, but should say "learn button" or something similar) If I recall correctly, the light next to the learn button started flashing after I pressed it.

Quickly go back to the car, and press and hold the desired button and the garage should close.

That should be it.

How do you change the inside overhead light on a 2004 f150 supercrew?

there are two different dome lights in the supercrew one is connected to the garage door opener and sunglass holder other wise known as map lights. to get these out just simply pull the unit and the blubs unscrew from the back insert the new blubs and replace the unit. the other type depends on the model of f150 you have one is the normal dome light in witch you just pop the cover off and replace the light. the other is just like the front map light where you just pull the unit out and replace the bulbs the same way.

How to set the automatic garage door opener

This is generally easy. Although you have not mentioned the brand, the system in the car and most cars is made by HOMELINK and they have a great website where you can go to find out how to program almost any car , etc with any garage door opener.

First , since the car is not new, hold button 1 and 3 on the car's overhead console continually for about 30 seconds. The lights will be on solid , then flash, then eventually go out. This erases any old codes. Then select your hanset position and a corresponding position on the cars pad. Lets say button 1. Hold your handheld remote to the overhead console and depress button 1 on both devices while watching the lights flash , fast then slow, then off.
Once done the car has received the signal and is ready to open the door.
On a door system with rolling codes there will also be a learn button ( Chamberlain, Liftmaster. Craftsman, etc.)on the drive unit in the garage,.This button is used to introduce a new device in "SAFE" mode.

Take a step stool , recah up and press the learn button . Then within 30 seconds push the console button in the car for 2 seconds and release. The openers lights will flash to acknowledge, then push the button in the car again for 2 seconds to test. Last step, retest your hand held to be sure it is still active as well. Post back to advise how you made out

Looks like it is pretty easily removed.

Use a small screw driver and pry open the garage door opener storage bin. You will see 1 screw there that you will remove.
Pull the front of the overhead console down and remove the console from the console retaining clips.
