Well, there are actually two different 3.0L engines used in a 2003 Mercury Sable. One is an Overhead-Valve (OHV) type engine. The other is a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) 24-valve engine. You can tell the difference by just looking at the engine or by checking the 8th digit in your VIN. For the OHV engine the 8th digit of the VIN will be a "U" and the DOHC engine will be an "S".

This is important information when it comes to getting parts or information for your vehicle.

Anyway, I have provided belt routing diagrams below for BOTH of these engines.

Is digram not above your hood or in front of radiator? most are, just kep in mind the smoth side go's to the smoth pullt the groved side go's to the groved pully's good luck hope this helps some.good luck.

this is a picture of the belt routing from a 2000 Mercury Sable with the DOHC V6. It is directly off of alldatapro, which is an excellent repair tool for general purpose vehicles. I hope this helps

You should also have a diagram printed either on the radiator support in the front of the engine bay, or possibly on the bottom side of the hood.
