Is the car turning over at all when you try to start it?

CHECK YOUR MAIN RELAY!!! Turn you key to the second position, if you don't hear a click and then the hum of the fuel pump then your main relay is probably the culprit. If your symptoms appear more on a hot day this is almost guaranteed the problem.

Have you checked the fuel pump RELAY ? I have seen the fuel pump relay get weak over time. I would replace the fuel pump relay. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 1994 honda accord lx wag. and the fuel pump is a big pain in the @#$ you have to drop the tank. and the fuel filter you have to take the master cylinder off to get to it. its just one big mess not hard to do just very time consuming.

Will the pressure regulator cause the car to over load and cut off

I'd suspect the fuel pump is the culprit, have the pressure checked.

No power to fuel pump

power as in measured 12vdc power? or it dont buzz. power.
most all, cars, and trucks, no year stated.?
the pump can only run ,cranking or running engine.
some you get fuel prime for 3 seconds, only key on.
so if you check the pump it WILL Be dead. no 12vdc (by design)
so crank it.
rules if the road.
the PCM will cut fuel if it thinks spark is bad. (and others ,ask)
so fueling is last.
unless the pump is dead cranking, is it dead cranking?
dead means , either no 12vdc to pump cranking or pressure is too low cranking.

Fuel system wiring diagram

which engine? 2.5 or 4L ,,, always engine first...... ill post for 4liter.
the first test on all EFI, (varies rules) but here it is.
many cars only have power to the pump cranking and running (ONLY)
(crash and burn rules... dig it?)
so use the meter this time and crank.
fuses first check.

btw, has that, login and look, like us.
see schem linked here. its real simple and is online. (goggle)

this EFI pump in 1993, is 100% controlled by the ECU. at all times
Fuse 1, blown kills pump dead.
software (firm) in the ECU controls this.

if cranking , pump is dead, check coil for 12v, on fuel pump relay
if not 12v across coil, cranking the ECU is bad.
or ECU detects spark loss, again, crash and burn logic in the ECU.

the ecu monitors spark at all times. if bad it cuts fuel
even if spark is GOOD. ! and spark feed back is bad.
that is pin 44 on ECU is dead......... for any reasons.....

Takes along time to get gas to the engine to start

Sounds like your fuel pump is going out. Perform a fuel pressure test make sure it is holding fuel pressure

Wount start backfires

Most likely the electric fuel pump in the tank is bad. You will here it hum while cranking. The failure is that the pump is not pumping enough fuel to keep the engine running. There are plastic tubes on the pump that deteriorate and get pin holes in them and leak fuel and lowering the volumn of fuel.

Also remove the vac. line to the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel injector rail. The fuel pressure regulator has a history of leaking fuel into the vac line and flooding out the engine. (Wear saftey glasses when removing lines)
