Question about 1994 Cadillac Eldorado

Radiator coolin fans

The radiator cooling fan on the drivers side does not work. I tested the fan in question connecting to the battery and the fan works. Are the two fans in parallel on one circuit, or are they turned on indvidually when higher engine temp turns it on? Perhaps two seperate relays turned on by a sensor when reaching the temp setpoint?

Sounds like the engine cooling fan relay which on my 89 Eldorado is in a grey box 2 inches wide and about 6 inches long on the passenger side of the engine compartment and the relays cost about 12 dollars. The true location for these relays will be in your owners manual. ( or ask a mechanic )

Tip

How to test and replace radiator cooling fan.

Hi.

Here a tip illustrating steps to test and replace the radiator cooling fan and the parts that may cause cooling fan malfunctioning.

Before replacing the fan, make sure that the fan is really faulty.
Read volts at fan contacts or jump the fan wiring to energize the fan directly.Ensure that fan blades are not blocked.

If the fan is OK, then the faulty part is either thermostat or fan relay.Ensure also that you have tested the 15A fuse in the junction block and the 40A fuse located in the Power distribution Center (PDC).

Here a diagram showing the location of the fan relay:

Finally, here below the steps required to replace the fan. The procedure is quite simple.

  • Disconnect the battery negative cable and set it apart.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector to the radiator fan.
  • Undo the bolts that hold the top fan housing and fan assembly (this is called Radiator Shroud).
  • Remove the Radiator Shroud housing. The radiator shroud will come out with the fan sliding toward the top side.
  • Install the new fan performing the operations in reverse order.

Here a diagram showing radiator shroud and cooling fan assembly:

I have a 93 honda accord . the cooling fan stopped working . i tested the fans to the battery an only one worked . if one does work will it make the other one not come on?

No, they work independently. The passenger side fan is the AC fan, and should be on anytime the AC is used. The driver's side fan is the radiator cooling fan, and is turned on by a temperature switch or by the computer when it deems the fan should be on.
If you jumpered them from the battery and one would not turn on, it would seem the fan motor is bad.

I have a 99 alero 3.4 changed the heads and it is still over heating I don't know what else to do if you have any ideal plz let me know

You need to check your entire cooling system, radiator, hoses, water pump, everyting, make sure notthing is leaking. Check your oil to make sure it's not milky, if it is, you've got a bad head gasket.

The cooling fan on the driver side of the radiator does not work i just put a new one where the water hose side is and now it runs but the other one does not. I put one new thermostat and one new fan...

One of the fans is for your radiator and the other is your condenser fan (for your air conditioning). The condenser fan starts at a higher temp than your radiator fan.
To test the condenser fan (the one on the right side, facing the car) unplug the electrical connector at the motor and use jumper wires to connect the fan directly to the battery. If it runs, check the fuses (engine compartment far upper left as you face the car), then the relay (right front corner of the engine compartment as you face it). The radiator fan typically engages between 189 and 199 degrees, but the condenser fan typically engages between 217 and 232 degrees. In other words they don't necessarily run at the same time. First of all, try letting the car run until the engine is warm WITH the ac running. If the condenser far does not run, then go through the checking procedure.
I hope this gets you started on a fix.

1998 ford mustang radiator cooing fan wont come on

Check the fluid level in the radiator - after it cools down !

It sounds like you should replace the temperature sensor that controls the fan. This is usually located in the radiator and has electrical wires connected to it. Trace the wires from the radiator fan ( not the air conditioner fan!) to the sensor.

If the radiator is aluminum you may need special anti-freeze to prevent damage.
