Question about 1990 Honda Accord

Automatic choke stopped working- difficulty start- revs dropping low at stop

I have 1990 accord automatic 2.0 about a week ago I noticed it was struggling to get going when pulling off. Over the last few days it takes several attempts before it will start. When it does start you have to be quick with the gas and keep high revs as when you move gear from park to reverse revs drop right down or it cuts out. When heated it runs fairly normal except when you stop at lights.I usually put it in park asap will rev at about 1000- as I move from park to 3 revs drop quickly to about 600 so I need to be quick on gas again and just manage to get away. Also, there is more exhaust fumes on starting which are kind of medium grey colour.

Thanks saskhonda, I will try this.My accord is of the old carburettor systen rather than fuel injected but I expect the product you mentioned applies anyway if it's basically a fuel cleanser.

The problem seems to be solved. It must have been bad or wrong grade of fuel used as after I topped up with a fresh few gallons it resumed pretty normal running and hasn't given a repitition of the revs problem and the automatic choke is functioning again.Saskhonda prompted me to look at fuel so thanks again.

it seems to not be getting fuel when I press the gas petal, then after several attempts to start it it starts right up.It cut out at a stop sign and took awhile to start again.

Quick and easy attempt to fix might be to try some fuel injector cleaner, the purple bottle stuff I put in, is only about $3 a bottle, and seems to eliminate similiar symptoms brought on by bad gas.

My 1986 Ford F-150 5.0 EFI runs good, but when I start it it revs to 1700 rpm untill I give it a little gas then it drops to normal rpm. How do I stop it from the high revs when started?

Does it rev high when started cold or hot? If it does it either hot or cold, check the throttle position sensor on throttle body. If that is not bad, then check the automatic choke sensor.

MY HONDA ACCORD HAS PROBLEM AT COLD START

The Part that is defective is one of 2. First is the Coolant Temp Sensor (Not knowing how much Fuel to give to the Engine) or the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve)... These are the 2 things that effect FUEL getting to the Cylinders to fire. Of course there are other things it could be (Low Fuel Pressure) caused by a air leak in the system or a few others but the first 2 is where I would have started...

1993 nissan micra fuel problem, automatoc choke stuck?

Running low on gas will not cause it to **** up muck ,the pick pipe is at one level fixed. This is just the age of the vehicle and possible a steel fuel tank with rust in it .fit an inline fuel filter and put the carb on a sheet of newspaper placed on the kitchen table and strip and clean it out then refit it A quick cure that might work is to remove the air filter and rev it up then place palm of hand over the carb so it stops the engine this will **** some of the muck out of the carb ,just as engine is about to stop ,remove the hand and let it rev again and repeat about 3 times it might help

I have had the same problem, replaced everything. Have not solved it. Sometimes car stops completely whilst driving. Your problrm will only happen when air con is on. There is a small electronic box under glove box. Turn small dial to the low postition or high, whichever fixes it and also bring your revs up with the idle screw on throttle body. I still have not solved my engine cut out problem, must be a faulty relay. I have replaced the computer and distributor but still have the problem
