2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II Logo
Posted on Nov 02, 2010

Hi - we have a Landrover Discovery II 2002 model - automatic. The M and S lights come on and flash, when this happens there is sometimes a 'clunk' noise. The vehicle is fine if it is going at speed, but when it comes to a standstill it is very tough and slow to move away (as if it is in a high gear). Does anyone out there have a solution/ideas as to how to fix this? Many Thanks

Hi your problem could be the wiring connector to the m&s switch on top of the gear box these connecters can get water in then corrode when the warning lights come on your autobox defaults into 3rd gear which is why you get the slow to move lack of power symptom .
you can get to the wiring from underneath or from above if you strip out the gear shift and console

hope this helps

Sounds like bad actuators. I would test the actuators by applying voltage to them while unplugged from the truck.

I just ran into a 2002 Discovery doing the same thing. What ended up being the fix was a cam sensor and crank sensor. That is about all I can say without more information. Hope this helps and best of luck.
