Question about 2001 Buick Century

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Buick Century and the Driver side power window switch is moving correctly. It is very hard to push down on and when it goes down it wont go back up unless I move the switch around. It automatically keeps going up. Is the switch broke and should be replaced and if so how do I remove the assembly to swap out the switch?

Hello: You will have to replace the switch. You have to remove the switch plate, to remove plate you use a 1/4 in straight slot screwdriver, put protection under the screwdriver (to protect panel) push down on the screwdriver go under the plate on the end, there is a spring clip you have to push on and pry up on at the same time. Un plug connectors on switch plate(they only go on one way) then remove screws thad holds the window switch assembly. Be sure to get the switch with the auto feature.

The driver's side power window is stuck half way up on 1998 buick century limited. What is the problem?

It could be the fuse, does it go down? If not chk. fuse, if fuse ok, see if you can help it down by pushing down on window wile working switch, and also same wile trying to go up, if it don't work or if its slow chanses are the motor is tired and needs replaced or its lost power like bad switch or broken wire. there is also a chanse it came off the track in witch case the door panel will have to be removed.

1999 Buick Centery passenger side windshield wiper

Sounds like you need two new wiper motors. I beliveve the gearing inside the motors are worn out and now theres alot of play in them. Try wiggling the wipers with you hands and see if you can feel any up or down / side to side movement.

Window goes up but will not go down replaced regulator and motor

Power is good, make sure you have ground on both sides when you use the switch.
I'm guessing per your description, you will not have a ground on one side of the switch.

The switch reverses polarity when you push the button for up or down.
Let me know,

2003 Buick Century - window problem

I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Buick Century. In my case, the driver's side front window one day went up and would not come down. I knew that the switch was malfunctioning by sticking in the up position since the window continued up despite the fact that Iet off the switch when the window was half way up and it continued going up. I had to pull over and pull the master switch assembly from the door panel and unplug it to prevent the window motor from being damaged by the constant power feeding it after the window was up. Basically, it would have burned the motor out. I cleaned the switch and it now works fine most of the time. I still need to replace the assembly. Not sure this is the reason in your case. I would check the back window and see if it goes down with the switch on the back door panel. If it does, then you are having problem with the master switch assembly on your front door panel. Moisture from rain from the window being down during rain or dirt may have corroded the switches' contacts.

2000 century electric window short

I as well have the same problem... I was able to get a tempory fix.... If you open the door, There is wiring that goes inside the door next to the hinge's of the door, there is a rubber sleeve covering the electrical wiring... Move the wiring around up/down sideways, while pushing the window switch at the same time, the window may go back up. Well at least I was able to get my window up again.
I beleive that there is some sort of short in the wiring harness.

The power windows in the front doors do not work. Window on passanger side goes down several inches, but will not go up. Have relaced motors and switches in both. what's causing problem and how can it be...

Check the black rubber boot that protect the wires coming out of the driver door going in under the dash...move the boot around while trying to roll up the window and see if you get anything ..if so , you have a broken wire inside the boot..
