Why does my traction off light come on?

You either have a problem with your engine control system, the traction control system, or you are not in the correct gear. See the explaination below. This is from the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Owner's Manual.

... If you turn the system off by moving the shift lever

to FIRST (1) or SECOND (2), the warning light will

come on and stay on. To turn the system back on,

move the shift lever back to a position other than

FIRST (1) or SECOND (2). The warning light

should go off. (See "Enhanced Traction System"

in the Index for more information.)

The warning light will come on when you set your

parking brake with the engine running, and it will

stay on if your parking brake doesn't release fully.

If the transaxle shift lever is in any position other

than FIRST (1) or SECOND (2) and the warning

light stays on after your parking brake is fully

released, it means there's a problem with the system.

If the traction control system is affected by an

engine-related problem, the system will turn off

and the warning light will come on.

If the Enhanced Traction System warning light comes

on and stays on for an extended period of time when the

transaxle shift lever is in any position other than FIRST
(1) or SECOND (2) your vehicle needs service.

92 chevy cavalier RS, I cannont get the headlamps to turn on, the high beams work, however the normal lights do not work. The lever on the left of the steering columb controls the cruise control,...

did you check to see if the fuse was any good.if it wasn`t then replace the fuse.a fuse will not cost you $25 as you indicate.if it works after changing the fuse that`s all you have to could be the dimmer switch at the base of the steering colume that changes from high to low beam lights when you move the signal can find it by looking under the dash and move the arm to activate the switch to find can check for power out of the switch with a test light.the wire color will be the same as the wire at the back of the headlight for the low beam.

My brake light and signals dont work on my 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier what could it be

I had a problem with the sockets that the light bulb plugs into were melted. This caused the contact not to touch the light bulb. instead of replacing the wiring harness (available from $9) I simply bent the contacts out a bit to make better contact with the bulb. Or course check your fuses and flasher first.

lastly is could be the multifunction switch (turn signal lever) $45-65 at

Blinker problems

You say the turn signals stay on. Do you mean that the lamps come on but don't blink? If so, The flasher relay needs to be replaced. The flasher is a round can with two male electrical terminals on one end. It is under the dash, just to the right of the steering column. If you don't know what it looks like, buy a new one (under $5) so you know what to look for. Charlie

Not sure if you mean no clicking from the flasher relay or no clicking from the directional lever itself. But I'll take a shot at it.If you push the lever up or doun and it wont click and stay then you need to replace the directional. If you turn on the directionals and the turn signal lights come on but don't blink then the flasher relay is defective.
