Question about 2005 Dodge Magnum

Shifter just yesterday i was trying to reverse out of a parking lot when i realized my shifter wouldnt go out of park, so i took the outer casing off and there was a safety there that was supposed to allow you to shift out of park when the car is off, i tried it didnt work so finally i messed with it some more and pushed in a certain switch that im guessing the brake is supposed to engage itself and it shifted out just fine as long as i press in this switch, im just wondering if a fuse or something is no longer working and if so then how do i get to it

You know the little change thing next to the shifter, the outer casing should pop right off and there will be an inner shell, with a hole on the left side, inside the hole there is a switch

Gear shifter won't shift into reverse or park

When you "muscled it into neural" you broke the shifter. Most likely it will take a replacement shifter to repair.

Shift lever repair

Most likely the shift cable that connects the shifter to the transmission if you can find where it connects to the transmission check there first sometimes they can get disconnected. then if your shifter is in the center console take the cover off and make sure shifter is still connected to cable. If that's not the problem and the cable is moving at the transmission then it's a problem inside the transmission

Gear shifter is in Park, but dash reads it's in Reverse. Car won't turn over because it is in Reverse now.

You have to locate where the park ignition switch is located. Some are on the transmission and some are in the column under the dash. It probably got moved.

Pulled in parking lot put in park tuned off and took out the key let off the brake and it rolled back like it was in neutral put key back in to start it and the gear display on dash showed it in reverse...

Your description sounds like you THOUGHT that you had park, I suggest that you closely inspect and re adjust the shifter fo be certain that park= park, exactly. A little off one way or the other is not acceptable...

You can often feel the detents of the trans, is your shifter and indicator centered in the gear position?

2006 Altima won't shift into reverse or park

Is there any warning lights or malfunction besides this?? There are three main parts that may cause this: Park/Neutral safety switch(located on the transmission), Brake pedal switch(located at the brake pedal), Shift lock solenoid(located below the shifter). P/N safety switch prevents the shifter from shifting out of (P) or shifting into (R/P) while vehicle is in motion. Brake pedal switch sends a signal to release the shifter lock to shift out of park. Shift lock, locks the shifter as describe above and is located at the shifter base. I recommend inspection/replacement of the shift lock solenoid and P/N safety switch as its an intermitted problem. Hopefully this helps
