I have a 1999 S420 Mercedes. The blower does not work. I do not get air, heat, or defoster. Does not blow air, defoster, or heat, What could be the problem? And, cost?

the motor is bad, or there is a fuse blown. check all your fuses, if they are all good then replace the blower motor.

Are you sure the controls you bought is good? Only a few things it can be. Control panel, Blower fan, and fuse. One of those are the problem. Cauld use a jumper wire to send power to the fan and see if fan cmes on. If it does then the fan is indeed good, then go and check and make sure power is on both sides of the fuse. then check the panel. could be bad. Panel sends signal to turn fan on and off. There's a blower motor (fan) under the hood and up against the firewall near the center of the car that takes some work to remove. It has gone out in the last 2 of my 4 Cadillacs. Turns out if you're not real careful with the positioning of the spark plug wires they will brush up against it, and if one of them gets cracked or brittle it will "arc" and short out the blower motor. The a/c compressor should still come on (you'll hear a click when it engages) but you won't get any air blowing into the cabin, hot or cold.

The part was like $200 stock (year 2000 prices) and it took about an hour to remove it. My Caddy at that time had this damn strut bar going across the engine bay which we eventually removed to get to the blower motor.

The heat is generated by a radiator located in your dash using engine coolant. You don't have heat because the valve that is controlling the coolant flow is closed - either it or the commands that is controlling it are broken - find which and fix them.

It is most likely a closed or mostly closed thermostat, cheap fix and very common.
