All lights work on my 83 cj7 except my dash lights

You either have the headlight dimmer control turned off or the dimmer control rheostat is defective

How to replace headlamp on 1984 cj7

  • Hi I can help,

  • To change the headlight on a 1976 - 1986 cj7 headlight you can reference the diagram I put up as well for a visual.
  • Basically there is a bracket that has two screws on top and two below that when removed, release the light assembly.
  • From there you can access the bulb in the back by twisting it out and removing the connector.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using fixYa.

Regards, Tony

I can get running lights but then my brake lights dont work then i can get brake lights then no running lights i have three wires orange, brown and white its on an 1983 jeep cj7

I think I found the problem, part of the high beam switch was burned, resulting in a loose connection. When I connected the loose wires, the lights worked. My guess is, the wire burned is the relay wire to go from low to high. I am going to replace the switch, hopefully this will solve the problem, I think it will.

85 CJ7 driving light problem.
