Question about 1994 Ford Escort

1 Answer

94 escort i have a 94 ford escort that was running, went out to start it one day and nothing, not even the click you get from a dead battery, no lights, nothing. had battery checked and it was no good. replaced battery and still nothing. checked the ground and it seems to be fine, question is, is there an in-line fuse or main fuse for the positive cable, or some other type of connection i should be looking for? anything at this point would be great.

1997 ford escort battery new battery dead overnight no electrical works no blown fuses jump start and cables start to melt will push start and run

Check battery cables are correct ! Prime suspect here ! Alternator may be damaged and shorting .. Don't drive any car that will melt jumper cables ! Something very basic wrong here.

Replaced the alternator in my 94 escort a couple of days ago. has been running fine since no indicator lights have come on, has started and ran no problem until suddenly tonight after driving out of town...

Best thing to start with is check the battery connections to make sure they are clean and tight.

If they are good use a volt meter to measure battery voltage. You should see 12.5 volts with everything turned off. then check it with the headlights turned on. If voltage drops than the battery is dead.

You can also try jumpstarting the vehicle. Once the vehicle is started measure voltage at the battery. You should see around 14 volts with the engine running. If you don't than the alternator may not be working.

Let me know what you find and thank you for using Fixya.com!
