Question about 2007 Ford Fusion I4 SEL Sedan

Open Question

My 2007 Ford Fusions speedometer isn't working. It has a code PO720 OSS sensor, I was told the OSS senor was bad and needed replaced. I paid a ford mechanic to replace it with the OEM sensor and it still has the same code and no speedometer sigal. This was the same mechanic that did the diagnostics and told me this would fix it.

SOURCE: Ford windstar OBD II code P1537/38, P0171 and P0420

It could all be related.P1537/38 are the intake manifold runner controls are stuck open. They are controlled by vacuum solenoids. The P0171 is bank one of the engine is running lean, usually caused by a vacuum leak, P0420 is catalytic converter efficiency code. The computer monitors the switch rate of the front 02 sensors and compares it to the switch rate of the rear 02 sensors to tell if catalytic converter is doing its job. Now if the front 02 is not switching properly then this will cause this test to fail and set this code.
Look on bottom section of the intake manifold at the back of engine(where tranny bolts up) you should see the vacuum motors there on the intake, these are the control motors for the intake manifold runners.Make sure the vacuum lines are hooked up and lines are not leaking. Also you will see a lever from it to intake make sure they move and are not binding.

Remove the throttle body housing on the top of the intake, it is a 90 degree tunnel like small piece held by 4 small bolts, turn it over and look for two holes, these holes are for the EGR valve flow, they are probably plugged up with carboned crud, clean them out with the tip of a screwdriver if neccessary to remove all the crud, once its clean reinstall it and reset your check engine light, hope this helps, let me know

Wont shift from second code p0720

code po720 refers to output shaft sped (OSS) sensor---circuit malfunction ===causes wiring--OSS sensor ECM/TCM
the possible fixes here are the OSS and the TCM . It could be either or both so I would suggest a visit to an accredited auto transmission shop to test the units before spending money on a good unit.

code p0720 refers to out put shaft speed (OSS) sensor-circuit malfunction===causes wiring OSS sensor --ECM/TCM
Having replace both sensors means that you still not have fixed the fault. Check the wiring and connectors for moisture an damaged pins and the TCM plays a big part in your problem ( transmission control module)

I have a 1996 ford explorer and the speedometer only works half the time. What could be the problem?

There is a problem with these electronic speedometers, but 1st have the fault codes read and see if the speed sensor has set a code, if it does have a code for the speed senor replace it, if there is no code for the sensor the speedometer is defective and needs to be removed and send out to a Ford electronics repair center.

Where is the location of a speed sensor on a 2003 Ford F250 superduty?

It should be sticking out of the top of the transmission at the rear of the unit. There are 2 sensors, 1 at front of unit (TSS) and one at the rear of the unit (OSS). The OSS is your speedometer related sensor.

2002 f250 v10 engine quits after warm up at idle only

DTC = P0720
footnote b = MIL (malfunction indicator light) comes on after 2nd occurance
footnote c = tranny control indicator light (TCIL) flashes
circuit = OSS = output shaft speed sensor in the tranny (not the variable speed sensor (VSS) in the diff).
condition = OSS sensor circuit malfunction
probable causes = Short/open circuit, sensor, PCM

My guess? Replacing the OSS will take care of it. smile.gif I hope you don't have a faulty PCM. frown.gif
