2000 Nissan xterra

My air conditioning quit blowing cold air...it still blows air but hot air. The mechanic told me that the freon levels were fine but the computer was bad and that I needed to replace the computer for 1500.00. Does this make sense?

I have a 2000 nissan xterra v-6, the a/c compressor runs all the time. The on/off switch won't disengage it,had to take the fuse out. Also the cruise quit , the on/off switch lights up but the controls on the steering wheel won't engage it. Thanks for any help. jmb94

My son's 2000 xterra has identical symptoms as slowride_ga. The A/C compressor is always on, and the cruise control does not work, I replaced the thermo-contol amp, but that didn't fix anything. How were you able to repair your x?

The part you are talking about is the A/C Thermo control Amplifier. Its only available at a nissan dealer and the part it less the $40 bucks in general. Here is a DIY write-up from a club i joined that will show you how to remove and install the part. Good Luck!!

I have the same problem (my AC just quit and now I bathe in my own sweat on my way to work)....the mechanincs at The Tire Choice in Aventura, Florida, state that fixing the problems requires changing two "A/C Relay Switches" for about $60 a pop...I will give that a try in lieu of the $1500 charge of changing the car's computer.

2000 NISSAN 4X4 P/U A/C SYSTEM WILL BLOW COLD WHEN OUTSIDE AIR TEMP IS COOL, WHEN HOT OUTSIDE AIR BLOWS HOT.

your auxillary fan is not working. this fan is responsible for cooling the freon that is being circulated in your cooling system... check if there are any loose wires in front of the engine bay.

the auxillary fan is located right beside your radiator fan.

I also have a 2006 H3 that the air conditioning was working great and was blowing super cold. then for 2 days i would try to turn the air on and it wouldnt work until the H3 was running for 10mins then it...

is freon level correct. does compressor come on when turned to cold? if it doesn't freon may be low or compressor may be bad. theres also an outside possibilty of the control being bad.

When the exterra is idle the ac blows hot air

Have the freon level checked. It might be a worn compressor that pumps insufficient freon at idle. Good luck!

A/c is not blowing cold air in front but air is cool in the rear.

Hey M, the pressure could be nothing but "hot air" and not freon... (I had this same problem!!) I let off a bunch of pressure..(nothing but clear hot air!!) ..using a small flat punch..on the low pressure side... if freon on comes out right away..stop.. if nothing but hot air comes out.. keep letting it out until freon comes out,,, When mine started letting out freon,, I quit and tried the A/C again... and it has been working fine since.. Just my recent experience!!!!

Hello everyone I have a 2004 nissan titan and when I am travelling down the highway the ac blows warm I have checked the freon level and it has the proper amount of refrigerent in it and the clutch fan...

Hey Wb, You say you checked the pressure and its ok. Have you checked to see if the pressure is actually freon or just hot air..(this is from a personal experience with the same symptoms) Let some of the pressure off the system while it is running..(the low pressure valve) and if freon does not immediately come out.- Just hot air..let it bleed until freon comes out .. (mine was overcharged and I had to let out A LOT of air out of the system until freon started coming out).. try this and see if it helps.. ...mine is working fine..blowing cold air 24/7 after this .. with no other steps,,,

Air condition blows hot air but it has freon

You may have created an over charged condition and at this point the a/c compressor will cut off on high head pressures. This can be verified by installing gauges to the systems high and low side service taps and reading the pressures. An overcharged system will start the compressor briefly but soon cuts off once pressure goes to 350 - 400 lbs on the high side. Acceptable pressures for this system should be no greater than 250 high and low suction should drop to 40-50 psi.You might recover the charge and evacuate the system, then try bringing the charge back to proper level.A sight glass in the reciever drier really helps determining proper fill.Once all bubbles have dissipated from the sight glass during charging ,one should stop at that point to avoid overfilling.Too much freon is worse than a low charge especially in hot ambient conditions....

As for the AC problem it has a leak somewhere if it worked good for a day.Have it pressure tested for a leak.
