Check heater hose and snap lock fitting that hooks to metal pipe onback side of engine. Our snaplock fitting developed a crackand dripped. Beware some grand ams use 3/4 hose and some use 5/8. Be sure before u buy.

It could be the heater hose which may be rubber that goes to the heater core.

My 1997 Grand Am is leaking antifreeze. It overheats and smells like burning antifreeze. We had a new water pump put on it and a new heater core put on it 4 days ago. Neither of those solved the problem....

it maybe a hose not installed correctly, if it is a v-6 check the intake gaskets for signs of leaking, when you over heat the engine, automatically replace the thermostat, the cooling fans may have a hand in the overheating issue, they may not be turning on due fan motor failure, check cooling fan fuses, very rarely does the coolant temp sensor give out and if it has, that would also be the reason the cooling fans are not coming on, a cracked radiator is also common on gm or any other radiator with plastic tanks. good luck

Firing order for a 97 pontiac grand am se

For the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am:
I do not know if you have the 2.4L DOHC In-Line 4-Cylinder or the 3.1L V6. However I have included both below. I suspect based on the SE Model you have the 3.1L V6.

For the 2.4L DOHC In-Line 4-Cylinder:
Firing Order:
1-3-4-2
Cylinders:
..........(back).........
|...1....2....3....4...|
..........(front)

For the 3.1L V6:
Firing Order:
1-2-3-4-5-6
Cylinders:
......(back)........
|...1....3....5...|
_____________
|...2....4....6...|
......(front)
Ignition Coil Connections
_____..____...____
|..O..|..|..O..|..|..O..|
|.5..2|..|.3..6|..|.4..1|

Let me know if this helped.....

I have a 1997 Pontiac grand am with a 5 sp. tranny. It has a 2.4 dohc quad 4 motor. The clutch just this weekend decided to stay on the floor when depressed while shifting. making it almost impossible to...

You really need to say more?
Of the 3 types of clutch linkage, rod, cable, and hydraulic, and can totally fail, bind, or there could be a failure inside the clutch itself, like the pressure plate.
You need to say whether the back pressure totally went away, if the pedal is just not moving freely, etc.
But certainly do not try to drive it at all.

Leaking antifreeze at the firewall

Hello! Unfortunately it sounds as if you have a heater core that has failed and is leaking. You can go to the Auto Zone website and find both the parts you're looking for as well as removal and installation instructions.

Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa!

Need to replace motor and transmission in a 97 Pontiac Grand AM G

Changing from a 1992 to a 1997 < WILL NOT Be EASY , As you must HAVE the ENTIRE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS , And ALSO the ECM for the older Set up. In the "5" YEARS there Were MANY CHANGES to the ENGINE Components= SENSORS and ACTUATERS .
its just a BETTER IDEA to Stay Whitin a year or 2 when Swaping ENGINES. SIZE OF SENSORS ETC. MAKES IT DIFICULT

Bad leak from little 2 inch L shaped hose next to lower firewall

its either the hose,or the heater core.
the core can crack where the pipes meet the core and
if you can smell antifreeze in the car and the windshield fogs,it is the core....the hose can also crack on the inside of the firewall and get misdiagnosed as a heater core.
big job,the dash has to come out

Passenger side floor wet dripping from a/c unit

if its water leaking then your condensation drain is probably plugged, it should be on the firewall lower passenger side. if its antifreeze its probably a leaking heater core.
