Question about 2000 Nissan Frontier

Open Question

2002 Nissan frontier will not go reverse but can drive forward only checked transmission oil was a little low, put 2 quarts in. The reverse barely moves. I will have to wait for a week till I can take it to a mechanic so if I continue to drive a mile a day would that be okay or will the engine go out?

Either transmission oil pump is on its way out or reverse circuit is clogged , reverse shift solenoid is defective TCM may be defective , transmission range sensor begining to fail or manual shift valve and pressure regulator are defective.

Suggest taking the vehicle to a transmission repair shop they will diagnosis it and repair it.

Changing transmission fluid

Nothing serious, but it should probably be changed out. The ATF would dilute the gear oil. A few ounces would not matter, but a quart would not be good.

Why does my 2005 pontiac G6 **** when i put it in drive or reverse? i have put in 9 quarts of fluid and still get the jerking, it does fine when i am driving the car! how many quarts should this car take?...

9 QUARTS??? Dude! that transmission barely holds 9 quarts when it is totally empty! You are going to destroy some stuff and have fluid everywhere!

The transmission fluid level must be checked from under the vehicle. It is easiest on a lift, but if you can get the car up on jack stands or something, that will work, as long as the car is LEVEL. To check the fluid level, start and run the engine for several minutes to get the oil hot. Then remove the check plug located just below and forward of the right drive axle. (See picture below) The fluid should be level with the edge of the hole (or just barely running out) when it is full. (This is checked with the engine RUNNING)

For the harsh engagement problem, I would recommend checking your motor mounts, NOT adding fluid.

I can't shift into reverse. All other 5 gears are

My VW is not shifting into reverse at all; I think a certain person was driving and mistakenly pressed the gear shifter down for all gears--reverse is the only gear you press the shifter down first in. Doesn't grind, 1 2 3 and 4 work but no reverse no reverse lights.
I've read several complicated (can't see scenario's) posts on screens and linkage and a cable fixed one guys problem but still no solutions.

Im thinking transmission

Have you checked your fluid level in your transmission when it is warmed up? Sometimes if they get low they will act up in this way.If it is low top it up,and see if that helps also if low never drive it if you do not need to this could severly damage the transmission and cause you more problems
