No heat runs hot when parked and running ,cools down a little bit when driving ,still no heat

Sounds like either a thermostat problem, certainly that if it cools right down when driving on the motorways etc or possibly a partially blocked heater matrix. Try running a good cooling system flush through it and change the thermostat.

Hope this helps

1996 jeep grand Cherokee, 4.0L automatic, white and little black ash under distributor cap, drive a few blocks and shut engine off, wont start back up, drive it across town and back it will fire right...

I have a "96 Grand Cherokee 4.0L myself. I have to admit I'm taking a shot here, I haven't heard of this before. I'm thinking you have a lot of miles just like mine, I've got around 250,000, a little lifter noise and an exhaust rattle but I've never had to do any major engine work on this vehicle.
I think it's most likely blow by (pressure getting past the piston rings) is forcing a little oil or maybe moisture up the distributor shaft. If you drive it accross town the engine warms up completely and the heat and spark burn off the oil or moisture. When you only go a couple of blocks it doesn't heat up enough to dry it out and burn it off.

2000 Pontiac Grand AM little heat being produced.

1st thing to do is change the thermostat. It is either missing, or stuck open (you provide good info). This is why the car is not running at operating temp and why you have little heat. The no blower for settings 1-4 probably means a bad switch.

Very little heat and very little a/c,but fan woks at all speeds ,antifreze good, thermestat good, controls good.

if it gets warmer while sitting still and running, and colder when you drive i'd say thethermostat may be stuck open causing the heat not to be very warm. i dont think these two are related if all these things you say are good, are. ac may just be low on freon.
