SOURCE: need diagrams for changing heater

You will need to take off the lower panels on both sides, they are held in
with pins and just pop off. Also, you will need to take off the front dash panel to remove ash tray. It is held in with 4 screws, 2 in the front and two underneath. The
toughest part is lying upside down so you can get to the core. Its located pretty
much directly behind the ash tray and you will access it down by your foot
area. Having the lower console out will give you an idea visually of where
it is. Youll have to remove the screws for the cover to the. I believe there are 2
on the passenger side and drivers side. You will be going back and forth to
get all of them. After you remove you have to pry it out the cover to the core from the passenger
side. It is a pita and dosent seem like it will come out but it will. Dont
worry about breaking it, its pretty soild. Just keep manuvering it. Then
there is the main cover to the core.It has a few screws as well but isnt
as large of a piece. After both are out the core is held in by a bracket
driectly underneath and one on the drivers side going through the firewall.
From there just disconnect
the hoses(some coolant will leak) and replace. Make sure it fits snug, as
i said space is limited so youll probably get cramped up a bit. If you need
any further detail let me know...

SOURCE: where is the heater core located in 1997 pontiac grand prix

Core is dead center in front of the shift console. There is a bunch of plastic that needs to be removed to get to it, including (on most) the console.
Hardest part of job is getting to the heater hose ends on the firewall (difficult to get to from above or underneath unless it's on a lift, but not impossible) Haynes and Chilton have pretty good instructions for that job and you can use the manuals for other stuff as well...(about $20)
Job takes some time but is much easier than a Jeep!!!! (all day job)
Good luck

SOURCE: how to change heater core on 2007 grand prix

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing

  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

If you have warm air on one side and cool on the other, you've a situation with the vent flaps. But to backflush the core, take both hoses off the core and run a garden hose to the outlet side going towards the water pump. This will flush it.

97 Grand Prix with repeated heater core problems

I'd make sure the core is installed right, like all the retaining brackets, etc. connected. Have the ph checked for your coolant. If the anti-freeze is too strong or weak it can cause this.

How do I replace the heater core in my 2001 pontiac grand prix

I had to replace the heater core in my wifes 1997 grandam. It is really not that hard. It took me just under three hours. Drain the coolant, jack up the car (use jack stands) Remove the two heater hoses at the fire wall, be sure and remove the rubber turn down drain adapter that is to the right of the heater hoses. Remove the left and right under dash panels, I can not remmeber how many screw ther are but there are a few, be sure and find and remove all of them. You should not have to pry very hard to remove the case. Hold the heater core in the upper case up in it's place and wiggle the lower case out. It is kind of a tight fit but not that hard to get out. Once the lower case is out remove the heater core by pulling it to the rear to clear the fire wall and remove the assembly. Replace in reverse order. Hope this helps.

My 1997 grand prix gtp has a leak

Is it water or coolant that leaks inside. Water will be clear, coolant will be yellowish-green or blue. If it is clear than it is just a rubber hose that is loose from the AC drain. Replace the hose and clamp. If it is coolant then you have a leaking heater core and would need to get it replaced.
