Place a jack with a piece of wood on it and place it under the oil pan. Put pressure on the oil pan but don't lift the engine. Remove the engine mount and jack the engine up and you will gain access to the nut you're after.

Do you remove belt when removing alternator

Hi:

To remove the belt, you must loosen the belt tensioner pretty far.
It is located up near the front of the engine, not far from the air conditioning compressor. It has a 10mm bolt that must be loosened, and that will allow the belt to be removed. After the Alternator is replaced, tighten the belt back up, and start the car , shut it back down and adjust the belt as needed.

How do I replace the drive belts on a 2004 Subaru Forester?

remove the belt covers just a few 2-3 10mm bolts
now loosen the lock bolt 12mm that faces the front of the car for the front belt which is on the left side
next loosen the belt tensioner bolt 12mm and then the other bolt for the alternator to the right
you can now push the alternator down and change the belt
to do the a/c belt you must remove the alternator belt first then loosen the lock bolt and slide or pry the belt off the pulleys
install the new belt and set the tension so the belt will move no more than 1/4" up/down

Ive got an alternator belt on a 1978 mercedes 450sl and the belt needs to go on the inside pully whats the easiest way. wrayturner@comcast.net

The only way to replace an alternator drive belt that is on an inside pulley is to remove the outer belts before the inner one can be fitted.
To fit inner belt, loosen the adjusting clamp and mounting bolts on the units that tension the outer belts such as the aircon compressor and power steering units and moove them to loosen the belts and then remove these belts. Once these belts are off, check them for wear and cracking of the rubber on the inside surface and if suspect it would pay to replace them as well. Loosen clamp and mounting bolts on the alternator, if not already done so, and moove alternator so that alternator belt can be fitted.
Retension alternator belt and tighten clsmping and mounting bolts Refit other belts in turn and tension and tighten clamping and mounting bolts.
Correct tension is when belt is pushed on the longest run between pulleys with a 10 Kg force. Belt should deflect a maximum of 8 mm.

Location of belt tensioner on 1997 nissan frontier truck

Hi there,

Take the top bolt out of the alternator (connects to a bracket), loosen the two bottom bolts on the alternator (easiest to do when under the car), then pull the alt. as far as u can towards the front of the car. it gives just enough to get the belt off. pull the belt off the non-ridged pully first. then replace in reverse order.

Good luck!!!

Belt diagram 1997 toyota corolla? alternator belt replacement?

The 97 Corolla has three accessory belts. The alternator belt is the one you see when you look down on the passenger side standing near the front of the engine compartment. If fits over the alternator and the engine pulley. The belt beneath it is the a/c belt (if the car has a/c). It fits over the engine pulley and the a/c compressor. The power steering belt is toward the rear of the engine compartment, on the same side. It fits around the engine pulley and the power steering pump.

Replacing the alternator belt is not too difficult. Standing in front of the car and facing towards the rear, loosen the locking bolt under the right side of the alternator. Then loosen the alternator hinge bolt on top of the alternator. Now you are ready to loosen the alternator belt tensioner adjustment bolt, accessed under the alternator from the front. Turn the tensioner until the old belt is loose enough to remove, then turn it further so that the new belt will go on easily. Replace the belt and re-tension until you have about 1/4 in. to 1/8 in. of play in the belt, tighten the lock bolt and the hinge bolt, and run the engine. If the belt squeals it means you need more tension, but do not overtension. Recheck it after a few days.

Directions on how to remove the alternator on 1989 900 Saab. Does anything have to be removed to be able to get the alternator off. Also, any tricks to get belts off first?

Removing the alternator isn't the easiest job on this car!

The long bolt that allows the alternator to pivot to adjust belt tension ISN'T the bolt to be removed; remove the two bolts that hold the mounting bracket to the engine block. One is at the end of the alternator (away from the belt), the other is above the end of the adjusting bolt, not far away from the first bolt. Slacken the tension off the belt by loosening the adjusting bolt, then undo the two bolts holding the bracket to the engine block.

While you have the alternator off, check the bushings of the tension adjusting bolt; if worn/sloppy they should be pressed out and replaced; it'll extend the life of the alternator bearings.

Good luck!

Could you please tell me how to tighten my altenator belt on my 94 olds achiva s? Your help would be appreciated, thanks

I believe this car has a sliding alternator for putting tension on the belt. There should a bracket above the alternator with a bolt that goes through it and the alternator, loosen this bolt first. Next there should be a pivot bolt on the bottom of the alternator which when loosened you can tilt the alternator back adding tension to the belt. When you have it tilted back far enough just tighten up the bolts without releasing the alternator til the bolts are tightened up all the way. You may need a long pry bar such as the tire wrench to add a little extra tension that you just can't get by hand tightening. Hope this helps you.

1990 nissan 300zx nonturbo - change alternator belt how?

If you look at the front of the alternator, behind the belt, you'll see a curving grooved metal track - that's the adjuster track for the alternator. There's a bolt going through the groove into the alternator, which holds the alternator in place. You need to loosen that. I believe it's a 14mm bolt. You may also need to loosen a couple of the 12mm bolts that mount either the bracket or the alternator, to allow it to move. You'll probably find that it's easier to cut the old belt off (so it's out of the way) and then do the bolt work with a little more room to spare. Belt changes are always a pain on these cars - stick with it even if it takes awhile. If that doesn't get the alternator loose, loosen or remove other bolts on the alternator mount or on the track mount, and it will move eventually - not much, but it'll move. You may find that you can partially seat the belt on the alternator pulley, but can't get the belt fully onto the pulley. If that's the case, get it as far on as you can, and then put a 27mm socket on a long breaker bar, put the socket on the crank pulley bolt, and with the car in neutral, rotate the crank pulley by hand. This will pull the belt onto the alternator pulley.
