Iv changed the switch, checked the fuses. changed the dim bulbs but i havnt changed the headlights. I have no idea what it could be. would the headlights make a difference? depending on country,most golf DO NOT have 2 rear foglights,this is not to confuse the driver behind thinking they are your brake lights,the one that works is fitted/wired to the offside.it still has a bulb holder though........the fronts have a fuse for both(when fitted)
turn on the interior light,then push passenger window switch to lower window if light dims then its not regulator(motor)that will give you something else to look for!! also make sure drivers door iso switch is on
You'll need to use the wiring from the 2.0L motor. Your best bet is to get Bentley manuals for the car the motor came from and for yours. They have very very detailed wiring diagrams, to do the swap.
I doubt it's the fuse. A very common problem is the brake switch on your brake pedal goes bad. This causes the EPC light and no brake lights. This switch was recalled by VW in 2007.
