I have RAV4 2008. The Brake Pedal is hard and it has to be pressed right upto floor to make the brakes work. Three times I have taken it to Toyota Dealer, and all the times he says that it is normal and nothing wrong with the vehicle. I have two other Honda Vehicles at home. I know that this RAV4 Brakes are not normal. Now this RAV4 driving is very risky. I am stuck up. CONCLUSION: Never ever buy any Toyota Vehicle in future.

Sounds like the piston in the break cylinder is stuck without looking at it I can't give you much but what I will say is take it for a m.o.t, even if you have one ,when it comes to breaks on any car safety has to come first and the m.o.t will give you the answer good luck colin

SOURCE: 2008 Toyota Tacoma Excessive brake pedal

Your dealer is not lying to you.
All of the Toyota product line with ABS has this phenomenon. What Toyota has done is incorporate "Brake Force Distribution" into the braking system. What that means is there is now a sensor on the brake pedal/brake rod, going to the master cylinder. The sensor measures how FAST you press on the brake pedal. This activates the ABS pump, and supplies more brake fluid, harder, to reduce the time needed, such as a "panic stop"; the pedal travel is much longer than you are used to, because of the way they have to measure the speed of the rod being depressed. In actuality, this system is much better than the old system, as it also prevents wheel drag. It just takes a while to get used to. Really, there is nothing to worry about, I explain this same thing to my customers every week.

I hope this helps you out.

How do I tell if the power brake booster isn't working on a 1998 Ford explorer?

When you turn off the motor & step on the brake
pedal 3 times, it should get hard

Then start the motor & engine vacuum should allow
the brake pedal to go almost to the floor

If you hear a hiss under the dash it (may) be bad

Hissing sound brake related

hissing sound is a vacuum leak somewhere on the power assist part of the system as in a bad booster..try this test..with the car off..push the brake pedal down a few times and release all the vacumm and see how far the pedal goes down..after a few pumps with your foot it should become hard and drop just a bit..once it feels"solid' or hard..hold the pedal down with moderate pressure.. and start the car back up..the pedal should drop a bit further but less than halfway.. if it drops further it needs attention..good luck especially if it goes almost to the floor..

Toyota surf brake problem

If you replace the wheel cylinders or brake calipers and did not bleed them properly, you most likely have air in the lines, If the rear brakes are drum brakes they need to be adjusted (if taken apart or new parts put on) or the pedal may sink when pressed.
1. If the brake pedal is soft when pressed down, the brake lines have air in them and need bleeding to remove the air.
2. a soft brake pedal can also be a bad master cylinder. Replace the master cylinder if the lines have been bleed correctly but the pedal is still soft or sinking when the pedal is pressed.

HOW DO YOU BLEED THE BRAKES ON 100 SERIES CRUISER

Start the engine, fill up full the brake fluid reservoir, and let someone press the brake pedal down to the floor for 3 times,, bleed the bleeder screw behind the tire.. position yourself closed to back plate of drum or caliper for easy bleeding work. when the bleeding screws is loosed brake fluid leaks with a bubbles. then close it again and tell the guy in the pedal brake to press it again until a hard press is felt and bleed the bleeder screw again, stop only the process when there is a hard pressing already on the brake pedal which is the brake system is now working properly.

Sounds like there is a fault with the vacuum pump not generating enough vacuum for the brake booster assist, or a leaking vacuum hose. Try pinching off all the vacuum hoses to see if the problem goes away. Could also be a leak in the brake vacuum booster itself

I suggest replacing the master cylinder assuming that you bled the system properly. You sound competent so it seems likely that the seals in the MC might be failing. That being said the brake lines can hold a lot of air :)

How do you bleed brakes on 2002 toyota camray. should the car be running

Engine should be off.
Take off one wheel at a time.
Connect a Mity Vacuum pump to the bleed valve.
Start to pump.
The air bubbles can be seen wen the fluid flowing out.
Constantly check the level in the master container to fill in with the new brake fluid so air doesn't get in the master cylinder.
Keep pumping until the clear liquid come out without any air bubbles.
Repeat for all the wheels.c8e6ff4.jpg

Brakes feel spongy.when pressed hard goes nearly to floor.if pedal released slightly and pressed again feels normal.this is a 1997 toyota caldina GGT with abs.have bled brakes and sgimmed discs.any ideas?

Either you did not bleed the brakes properly or they need adjusted. (rear only) Front most likely are disks. If you put pads on the front and spread the caliper pistons, you should pump the brake pedal 10 or 15 times to move the pistons out. Some ABS systems are notoriously hard to bleed.
