2002 Ford Taurus will not start, I think it is the anti theft system. How do we reset that or by pass it?


If it was the PATS - anti-theft system you would not have any clicking at the starter . You have connection ,cable or starter problems , most likely . Testing the starter electrical circuit doing voltage drop testing .

Click the search buttom then the blue link. Looking at the wiring diagram I see fuse's at the top ,starter relay in the middle an at the bottom the starter , PCM - this is the engine computer . The PCM will energize the starter relay only if it receive's the correct coded message from the PATS module or which module is in charge of that . So you would not even get a click at the starter ,because the relay wouldn't even be energized . You could possibly have a transmission range sensor problem or positive battery cable to tthe starter or ground cable .

Changing the computer is easy , it's what comes next that is the difficult part . Changing computers requires programming the new one . Dealer only ! Special tools needed .
Looking at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the elctrical circuits would be a good first step . Then leaning how to trouble shoot automotive electrical systems would be good also. The starting motor relay in your vehicle is controlled by the PCM - engine computer . The PCM will supply a ground path for the coil side of the relay , if it see's an input fro the transmission range sensor switch, an there is no anti-theft system problem's . You can test at the relay for B+ voltage at two of the pin's an a ground through the starter an control from the PCM .

pcm bcm ignition staring diagram wiring ?????? First off what is staring ????? Do you mean STARTING system wiring diagram ??????? The PCM / BCM have nothing to do with the starting system on your vehicle. When you turn the key to the start position it sends B+ voltage through the transaxle range switch to the S terminal on the starter solenoid ,that's it . Use a test light ,voltmeter etc... With someone turning the key to start check for B+ voltage at the starter S terminal . Plus voltage drop test the heavy gage battery cable to the starter .

Do you know if it is ECM/PCM or BCM controlled ?
Circuit Description (ECM/PCM Controlled)
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12-volt signal to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) Crank Request circuit. The ECM/PCM verifies that the transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position. With the transmission in Park, voltage flows through the Park/Neutral position switch and feeds the starter relay coil. The PCM then grounds the control circuit of the starter relay. When the starter relay is energized it allows battery positive voltage to the starter solenoid S terminal. On some vehicles the starter will continue to crank the engine with the key released until it starts or the crank command has timed out to prevent excessive heat build up in the starter circuitry or the ECM/PCM receives an engine run flag.
Circuit Description (BCM Controlled)
Moving the ignition to the START position signals the body control module (BCM) that engine crank has been requested. The BCM verifies that theft is not active and sends a serial data message to the powertrain control module (PCM) requesting engine start. The BCM also energizes the RUN/CRANK RELAY. If you look at the diagram you will see the ignition switch ,when in start it sends B+ voltage to the ECM/PCM or depending on which system or engine to the BCM . When it see's this input it will energize the starter relay located in the under hood fuse box. This happens if the control module in charge see's another input from the PNP- park neutral position sensor and if no anti-theft system problems .

Have 2005 pt cruiser full battery charge wont start


The starter motor has two voltage circuits. One comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the start position and starter relay is energized. The starter motor grounds through the engine block. If voltage and ground for the starter motor are good, then I would have to check starter motor. You can use a test light to check voltage. Any testing at starter motor make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.

O5 Colorado got the ecm code when I shut off the truck and now it won't turn over


What ECM code ? What is everything else that is working ? Headlamps , inside lighting , radio etc... When you turn the key on do the instrument cluster warning lights come on then off a few seconds later ? Anti-theft (security light ) On ? Flashing ? Do you know what all is involved ,or happens when you turn the key to start ?

Verify that no starter relay, immobilizer, or automatic transmission DTCs are set that would cause the PCM to disable starting.
? If the specified DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool PCM Ignition 1 Signal parameter with a scan tool. The reading should be greater than 10.0 Volts.
? If less than the specified value, test the ETC, PCM 1, and PCM B fuses, the RUN/CRNK relay, and the PCM ignition voltage circuits for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the PCM.
Ignition OFF, remove the START relay.
Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 30 and ground.
? If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the START fuse and the B+ circuit for an open/high resistance.
Ignition ON, transmission in Park or clutch pedal pressed, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the PNP/clutch start switch signal circuit terminal 86 and ground.
? If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the IGN fuse, RUN/CRANK relay, PNP/clutch switch ignition voltage circuit, and the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, test or replace the PNP switch or the clutch start switch.
Connect a test lamp between the park/neutral signal circuit terminal 86 and the relay coil control circuit terminal 85.
Ignition ON, transmission in Park, or clutch pedal pressed, turn the ignition switch between the START and RUN positions. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
? If the test lamp is always ON, test the relay control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PCM.
? If the test lamp is always OFF, test the relay control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. Test the PNP/clutch start switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the PCM.
Install the START relay.
Connect a test lamp between the starter solenoid terminal and ground.

2004 Envoy XUV doesn't always crank.


I want to see if i catch your drift ! When you turn the key in the ignition switch to start , nothing happens ? Have you tried moving the gear slector to the neutral position to see if it starts then ? Park neutral safety switch problem , maybe .

it sounds like the problem but the question is why wont the pcm start the car. with the key turned to on the service engine light sould be on. if not the pcm has no power.

Before replacing parts that probably won't fix the problem ,learn how the starting system works for your vehicle ,then test !
Yes ,there is a relay an it is controlled by the PCM - powertrain control module . When you turn the key to the start position ,this does not have a direct hook to the starter . It's a B+ voltage input to the PCM - engine computer . The PCM must also see a message from the transmission control module that range sensor is showing the vehicle is in park or neutral and no problems with the anti-theft system , then it will energize the starter motor relay . Do you know what an how a relay work's ?
