I need to know if the plug wires at the front go on the top of the distributer or bottom and what order

Just thought I'd let you know, All you needed to say is "firing order diagram for a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville 3.8L engine". Here it is:

Firing order 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 --------- front ' 1 2 3 4 ' of ' 'distributorless ignition vehicle ' 5 6 7 8

1342 or 1243

You need to determin which direction the rotor button turns when the engine is running. Take the cap off and get someone to bump the starter . Watch the rotor. If it turns counter clockwise the fireing order will follow its order counter clockwise on the distributer .In other words # 1 wire on the distributer goes to # 1 spark plug. Then the next wire counting counterclockwise goes to # 3 plug . Follow the firing around the distributer for all the wires. counter clockwise is the oppisit to the rotation of the hands on a clock .

Um....there is a 4.3L in a 97....



1996-98 4.3L Engines Firing Order: 1-6-5-4-3-2Distributor Rotation: Clockwise

Standing in front of the truck, #1 is at 5 o'clock on the distributor and it runs clockwise.The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Hope this helps.

Wires just pull out of the top of the cap. Do them one at a time and you won't have a problem putting them back.(they just push into each hole.)

I believe it firing order is 1-4-2-3 (where cyclinder #1 is the closest to the fire wall) and your distributer has the plug wires running almost vertically.

1st cylinder = the very bottom
4th cylinder = second from the bottom
2nd cylinder = second from the top
3rd cylinder = the top connection on the distributer.
