2004 Impala heater stopped working

All of a sudden my heater stopped working. It takes a very long time to get warm. The engine temperature gauge fluctuates widely too.

I bought my car in 2004 brand new. The heater just stopped working- just in time for the michigan winter. Luck me. I prestart my car for 10-20 minutes in the morning depending if it is cold or not. Over the past week- Ive prestated it for 20 minutes....when I get in my car- there is still no heat- it just blows out cold air.

The only time I get any kind of heat is when I go over 35 miles and hour

I had this same problem. Getting a new thermostat, replacing a leaky fuel cell and $270.00's is all I needed. Problem solved.

Why is the heater not blowing out heat?

This could be one of a few options.#1 could be as little as 1 quart to one half gallon low on coolant in radiator; #2 could be thermostat may be stuck in Open position all the time ( check temp gauge to see if engine is at Normal operating temperature ) #3 could also be stopped up Heater Core....Check this by simply touching heater hose going into heater core and heater hose exiting heater core, at any rate if the core isn't stopped up, Both hoses Should be warm or hot at regular operating temperature of engine warmed up.

Heater is not getting hot and the temperature needle isn't working

First I would have said your thermostat is stuck open. But if the engine is overheating and the gauge reads cold the cooling system is probably empty. Or there may be alot of air pockets in the cooling system instead of all liquid coolant.
If the system was full and the water pump failed the heater might not work but the gauge would read hot.

I have a 2004 Impala. My heater and defrost blows cold air. It takes forever to start getting warm - I have to drive about 30 minutes before it starts to get warm if it's going to. If I turn the blower...

Staqr by making sure the coolant level is full in the radiator. When the engine is cold remove the radiator cap. If you can't see coolant in the radiator you'll need to add some. once it is full replace the cap and start the engine. Do you have heat now?

If not is the check engine light on?

Do you have a temperature gauge? is it reading lower than normal? The needle should be around the middle mark. If its near the quarter mark than you could have a thermostat stuck open which would cause the check engine light to come on and store a code for coolant temp below operating temperature. I think its code P0128.

The heater on my 2002 impala doesn't work. The

does the temperature gauge show the car is warming up? If not it might be your thermostat. Should also check your coolant level.

2004 Chevy Impala no heat from defrost or heater

No heat is often a symptom of low coolant, usually followed by overheat. There are other controls that regulate heater, but right now, re-fill the cooling system with engine running and heater on high, then check for leaks (coolant you lost went somewhere...you need to determine where) Low coolant will damage your engine. Take care of that first, then if heater still does not work, then do diagnosis on that. (if you loose the engine heat won't matter, will it!)

2000 Impala heater takes a long time to warm up

Hi there, sounds like your thermostat is stuck open therfore not allowing the coolant to warm up to proper operating temperatures. I would start by replacing the thermostat on the vehicle. This is fairly inexpensive part . hope this helps you out.
