I know it attaches to a small hose and the body of the valve inserts into the head. Mine is on the right rear in a 2000 Explorer Sport. The guy at Autozone always is happy to help me when I ask...too short to get over the fender if I don't have a step or block to stand on. Not a very expensive part.

2002 ford ranger starts cold. will idle fine but dies after i rev it up, then will not start again. replaced plugs, plug wires, and battery.

When the engine is idling, listen very carefully to with the hood open for something that sounds like rushing air. There might be a vacuum leak on the engine (all you need to do is make sure the vacuum hose is tight). This should be a rubber hose that plugs onto a hose barb or into a small hole in the engine. There is a piece call the pcv valve that you probably need to replace if you don't hear any air leaks.

How do i remove and replace the valve cover gasket on a 2002 ford ranger

Hi diane hensle. I hope I can help with your problem. First, you want to remove the PCV valve hose and any other hoses that may be running to your valve cover. Mark their positions with masking tape so you can remember where they all go. Then, remove the 3 or 4 bolts in the top of the valve cover holding it in position. When these are removed, it may take a smart whack on the side of the valve cover to dislodge it. Just don't hit it TOO hard, as these are aluminum. Once the valve cover is off, remove the gasket and clean off both mating surfaces. Be careful to drop as little debris as possible into the head as this will soil your oil. Replace it with the new gasket, replace the valve cover, and tighten the bolts going from center outward. They don't have to be particularly tight, say snug plus 2 turns. If they are too tight, the valve cover will pinch the gasket and cause oil leaks and air intrusion. Then replace the PCV hose and any others you may have disconneced. Hope this helped.

Where is the pcv valve in a 2002 cadillac sls ?

Hello:I don't think your car has a PCV valve, see if you have a rubber hose going to one of the valve covers. This will have a small orifice in it and it replaces the PCV valve. Make sure the orfice is open, you do not have to replace it.

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger 4.0L. Somehow, it keeps blowing the PCV hose. I have replaced it 3 times in the last 2 months. The last time, I replaced the entire hose system (both elbows and plastic tube)...

It could only be pressure from the crankcase which would mean you have excessive blowby from the combustion chamber getting past the piston rings.
You should be able to feel this pressure when you disconnect the hose from the pcv valve. Or the pcv valve is not letting the blowby to get sucked into the engine to get re-burned.

How many miles on engine and is it running good.

Where is the pcv valve located on a 2003 ford ranger

  • The PCV valve can be located in several places. The most common location is in a rubber grommet in the valve cover. It can be installed in the middle of the hose connections, as well as installed directly in the intake manifold.
  • Once the PCV valve is located, make sure all the PCV system hoses are properly connected and that they have no breaks or cracks.
  • Remove the air cleaner and inspect the air and crankcase filters. Crankcase blowby can clog these with oil. Clean or replace such filters.
  • Oil in the air cleaner assembly indicates that the PCV valve or hoses are plugged.
  • Make sure you check these and replace the valve and clean the hoses and air cleaner assembly.
  • When the PCV valve and hose are in satisfactory condition and there is oil in the air cleaner assembly, perform a cylinder compression test to check for worn cylinders and piston rings.

rough-idling engine can signal a number of positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve problems, such as a clogged valve or a plugged hose. But before beginning the functional checks, double check the PCV valve part number to make certain the correct valve is installed. If the correct valve is being used, continue by disconnecting the PCV valve from the valve cover, intake manifold, or hose. Start the engine and let it run at idle. If the PCV valve is not clogged, a hissing is heard as air passes through the valve. Place a finger over the end of the valve to check for vacuum.

With the engine at idle, vacuum should be felt at the PCV valve.
