Question about 1986 Volkswagen Wagon Camper
We had a small oil leak coming from the top of the fuel filter sensor so 2 weeks ago we renewed it , then today our engine overheated and oil has spurted out from somewhere but we cannot see where, what do you think the problem is and if we have to replace the engine can we put in a 1,9 turbo diesel or not (will the turbo fit?)
Hello, i have recently purchase an 85 vanagon westfalia, with a 93 turbo diesel toyota engine, and it does not fit, so some modifications were made, such as the matress on top of the engine on the back had to be cut ,, its like a big square, its not that bad, i can still put a thin matress on top of that square and its just not as soft,,, but my real problem is that i still have the same 4 gear vw transmition, so i am now in the quest of a vw golf 5 gear transmition that would fit , my other option was a subaru transmition ,, but it was kind of expensive, if anyone reading this know of other options please let me know ,, also i was told that i have to change the radiator & fan for a bigger one and also see a way to install some sort of fan right next to the engine on the back,, since diesel engines run hotter,, i am not really a gear head ,, dont know much about this things.... any comments or recommendations?

Does anyone know if it is possible to put a bigger engine in the T3 as at the moment we have a 1.6 not turbo diesel and we can only do 90 kmh . we thought that maybe another engine and a five speed gearbox but which one will go straight in and if we have to adjust anything what would we have to change to get a bigger engine in. I don't suppose there is any chance of putting a turbo diesel engine straight in? Also why do you not have T3 1985 listed > I had to put this under 1986,
Anyway we managed to tow the T3 1985 camper to a garage and the problem isn't that bad .
Because the belt was slipping it wasn't turning the pully fast enough to cool the engine which is also why the rev counter was eratic apparently.
We had a small hole in the top of the expansion tank which is where the water came from (which will be replaced) and apparently the bit of oil had come from what looked like the flywheel casing anyway the mechanic got some long nosed pliers and pulled out a plastic tube from it (behind the line of injectors ) he seems to think that somthing is missing that conects to it - what ? i'm not sure, as my French isn't that good.
