Whining sound in front end while driving seems to get louder when speed is above 60kmh

My 2006 jaguar x type is whining in the front end every few minutes when I reach speeds of 50 mph. It gets higher pitched when I go faster and when I let off the gas petal the whine is decreasing with a lower pitch. It's been doing it the past few days in -20 degree weather. The car has been warmed up for a half hour and still does it. It is not with the tires or radio, but its something in the dash or engine. Can't figure it out. Only does it every so often.

It could be chopped tires or a front wheel bearing. Rub your hand around the front and rear tires and see if they are un-even like a wash board. If they are they need replacing and will make a wierd whining noise that changes with the speed. The wheel bearings can also make this noise so check the tires and go from there. I hope this helps you.....Dan

I replaced the wheels hubs on my 2009 Pontiac g5 and it's still making a whining sound from the front end as I gain speed.

Whining sounds come from diffs that have a problem in the mesh between the crown wheel and pinion If yours is not front wheel drive then the noise may be from over tightened wheel bearings or failed bearings or the abs sender touching the exciter

Front end hum/noise

The hum could be being generated by the tires. I would move the rear tires to the front (as they are a different brand) and see if the hum is exactly the same at the same speed.

High speed hum can also be generated from the design of some types of brake rotors but I doubt that is the issue in this case.

From what you have described I would not have thought the problem would be wheel bearings so I am surprised that was the diagnosis before a more careful investigation was carried out. I would have tested the tires first. (I would not have put the old wheel bearings back in either after they had been changed).

Whining noise from front end. starts at 5mph and

Hi,
If the sound is coming from your power steering pump and the fluid level is good, the pump could be going out.

2004 implala vibrates while driving

You have a shot front wheel bearing which will sound like a whining rumbling noise, if the bearing is really bad it will have started to break up inside and the streering wheel can snatch.
