Question about Hyundai Motor 2003 Elantra

2 Answers

Door seals I am having a problem with my 03 Elantra's front door seals or gaskets . They howl . I can't go any faster than 100 KPH they start to howl. Sometimes when there's a side wind it'll do it at around 80 or 90. Gaskets are in excellent conditionall around. Could it be something other than the door seals? We would like to use our car to go to the lake but we couldn't take the howling for an hour and a half

Check the window was fitted closed, & check also the alignment of the door., if you think it was not the gasket, but if the door / window was not properly closed and can;t fit exactly to the gasket..

BTW.. is it both front doors...?

check where is the sound coming, open the window while driving and hear if it's coming inside / from otside..

    check the winshield seal.

also check if the crossbar or the if the anteanna was on the front, check if the sounds was causing one of this part.

Please post back.. and let us know here again..

Hyundai Avante (Elantra) green

a small rubber vacuum pipe connecting to the injector system / inlet manifold. Sometimes this pipe perishes and allows air to enter thus decreasing the vacuum. The engine then cuts out. It's simple to check and replace the tubing where necessary. You may also notice the engine cutting out when traveling at speed and one suddenly slows down.

How to replace a oil pan gasket 2003 mercury sable

1st. Can you remove the oil pan without partially removing the engine? If - YOU CAN'T - take it to a local ASE Professional. Concerns: 1 - rear main seal, will it be damaged when you remove the oil pan. 2. Front oil seal, pan seal, same concern? Lets assume you can remove the oil pan, ok, ... you MUST get the TWO gasket surfaces clean, smooth, I mean REAL CLEAN. SIT THE oil pan with the gasket surface up and flat, ..CLEAN THE GASKET SURFACES AND EVERY BOLT with QUICK EVAPORATING brake cleaner or acetone. Let then dry. Get some Permatex spray "red" gasket glue/sealer. Spray the pan side of the gasket with the red glue, carefully lay the gasket on the pan, use the bolts to locate the gasket, make sure the gasket is seated against the pan 100% around the edges!!!! Let the gasket dry overnight!! Then spray the face of the gasket with the red sealant before installing, do it while its still tacky. tighten all bolts finger tight, then start a criss cross pattern, start slowly tightening them (WITH A QUALITY TORQUE WRENCH) TO 50% OF RECOMMENDED.VALUE, keeping the criss cross pattern to 75%, then to 100 - 110% of FACTORY SPECIFICATION. This should stop all gasket caused leaks!!

Roughly a 100 mi. ago, the drive-terrain at the front, began making a constant, lower-tone howl at speeds starting around 25 mph and up. The noise peaks in volume while cornering left and mutes down w

You have one of a few things happening. Either a cv shaft is going bad making that noise. A wheel bearing. Or it is internal the the front differential. The differentials on these models were common for issues with the seals wearing out prematurely causing fluid loss.

I have a 2005 Freestar limited. when traveling over 100 km or if there is a strong wind there is a howl in the front right side of the windshield, or door jam or somewhere... I can't pinpoint exactly. This...

Check weatherstripping around windows and doors. Sometimes it's crushed slightly and air is getting through. Easy way to find it, take your rig to a self serve car wash & spray high pressure water in areas you suspect. If air gets in, so will water.

My 1995 jeep grand cherokee makes a loud howling noise when your driving. The faster you drive the louder the howl. I have replaced both front axle shafts, shaft seals and bearings. It still howls...

Likely then the tech was wrong and some damage has occurred.
(sometimes it's hard to see) Gear sets are expensive and so are bearings. Only people with the proper tools and experience should attempt a rebuild.
Most often you can find a good used unit end to end in a scrapyard for under $200. (I haven't paid more than $125 for any I have gotten lately). You can put your new axles and hub bearings on the new unit or save them for spares.
One very important thing is to exactly match the gear ratio of the one you are replacing. There should be a tag on the diff cover or you can count the ring gear teeth and divide by pinion tooth count to get that #. Some are also stamped on the edge of the ring gear as well. It takes about a day for an average person (with a helper) to remove and install one on the ground providing you have decent tools, jacks and a bit of experience. Far less time on a lift with power tools.
