VSC stands for vehicle stability control. That has nothing to do with the gas cap.
Maybe, the starter or battery is weak or bad. Or, the starter to battery connection at the battery is bad.
Try to disconnect the battery, clean and wire brush the connections, and reinstall the connections to see if the car will start up after that.
Note, that batteries have an average life expectancy of 3 years, typically. I see that your car is 3 years old, so if it had the original battery, it's possible it needs to be tested at a battery retailer to see if it is alright.

Duane it worked!!!! We cleaned off the connections like you said. The terminals were dirty and then we jumped started the car and voilà it turned on. We are now getting a new battery. Thank you soo sooo much!!!
