Check the gas cap. If missing or faulty this problem may occur. If you replace the gas cap you must drive the vehicle for about 50 kms before the computer will reset and turn the light off. Happened to me.

I have a 2002 grand am and less than a year ago had to replace cadalitic converter. The check engine light would come on once in awhile, and the car will start to bogg down. It started out as intermitent then eventually all the time. The smell may be the heating up of the converter.

Just bought a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am 2001 used. Just had the oil changed this morning. Last night after test driving the car...the check engine light came on...and the guy at the car dealer...said it...

This repair procedure should cost around 80.00 to 100.00 dollars. This includes the labor and part.
This will also depend on the shops labor rate and which O2 needs replacing as well as THEIR charge for the replacement O2.

Engine running really rough...whine sound when it isn't.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug, plug wire, coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.
