A couple of places to look at would be the carb,(float bowl and needle valve)to see if it might be overloading it with fuel,the other would be the choke weather it be electric or vacume/mechanical, then look at the egr valve to see if is operating right,check the vacume on it also,if u pull a vacume on it, and it does the same thing, that it has been doing then its either going bad or there is a vacume problem.
If it is the fuel overloading it you can check the plugs to make sure,check for a black,sooty build up on them.(carbon buildup)
being as you put a new fuel pump in it it might be possible that it has blown an internal seal in the carb if its the original carb,and that would cause it to stall out till the fuel level came back down in the float bowl.
