My engine turns over but won't fire
I was driving the tahoe, shut it off , then it wouldn't restart. just turns over.
Is your security light flashing? If your Tahoe has the factory ant-theft system, if the security light is flashing while you are cranking your anti-theft system has been activated. It is common for the Tahoes to wear out the ignition lock assembly, lock cylinder and the ignition switch(electrical) which is attached to the lock assembly. I have replaced all three parts with great success and solved the no start problem on several GM trucks.
The most common problem with these vehicles is the fuel pump. The pump should run for a few seconds when you turn the key on before you crank the engine. If you don't hear the pump run, go to the fuse/relay box under the hood. Look at the diagram on the inside of the lid and locate the fuel pump fuse and relay. Check the fuse to see if it is blown put it back if OK or replace it. Unplug the fuel pump relay and use a paper clip to jumper across terminals #30 & #87 where the relay plugs in. If the fuel pump starts running, you should be able to hear it run at the back of the vehicle, where the tank is. If you don't hear the pump running, hit the center of the tank dead-center with a rubber or wooden mallet. If the pump still doesn't run, see if you can get to the wires going to the fuel pump and wiggle them. If you hear the pump run, try starting the engine. If it starts, replace the relay, if that was the problem or the fuel pump AND relay if the fuel pump was the problem. WARNING! WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE PAPER CLIP. IT MAY BE HOT!!!
The fuel pumps AND connector are big problems with GM trucks. If you replace the fuel pump(which is located in the fuel tank), use only the factory pump which you can buy at your GM dealer or an auto parts store that sells Delco parts. If the fuel pump used the small square four-pin electrical connector, replace it with the fuel pump. The latest GM/Delco fuel pumps will come with the new plug which you MUST change over as it is now a flat four-pin connector.
GOOD LUCK!
I have a 03 Tahoe and it took me through loops I spent well over 700 on parts. Battery, alternator, starter, O2 sensors, throttle modules, water pump fans etc.. come to find out it was a 3 dollar part! It was the ground cable. So a lot of you I see with similar issues that I was having, may want to check your grounds.
This has happened to my Father in Law Tahoe. After alot of test, Our mechanic said it was the Smog Pump. $275-315 depends on where you get the part at. vehicle starts up now.
I have a 2002 tahoe that wont start but it cranks over and acts like it wants to good fuel pump and filter and starter

Have you done anything different to this car recently? Has anyone else
serviced it recently? If so, perhaps something was not connected right.
Sometimes when you have a key ring with a zillion keys weighing it down
it could affect your ignition switch! Try a different key.
Maybe you need a tuneup if you haven't had one in years!
If you have an automatic it won't start until you put your foot on the
brake - there is a switch on that brake that could be defective.
Bad fuel or fuel starvation could cause some stalling too!
I had a car once that developed a small hole in a rubber fuel line
causing the car to **** air and stall. Check you fuel lines especially
if they are rubber.

My suspicion is a starter going bad. Sometimes when starters get old and worn they will start good when the engine is cold but not when the engine is warmed up. Did you perhaps notice that lately is seemed to drag when you tried starting, especially warm or it seemed to crank a little slower? I'd replace the starter. Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem with a 2002 GMC Sonoma. I replaced the crank position sensor and fuel pump and still no fuel OR power to the pump. Checked all the relays and fuses. It has plenty of spark.
I have a 1999 Tahoe 5.7. I bought from a friend who said fuel pump was out. Paid him $300.00 for new fuel pump and he says he replaced it. 2 months after I bought it it started having problems starting, would turn over and eventually start. A friend told me to check the fuel pump relay switch. Well low and behold when I open the fuse box there is a red jumper wire running from fuse amp to the relay switch. I bought a new relay switch, would not start. Put jumper wire back on with new switch and it burned it up. So I put it back the way it was, old relay switch with jumper wire. Drove probably another week, now won't start at all. Could it be the friend really did not put a new fuel pump in? Why else would he have had the jumper wire? Sorry, I am a woman, and can do some things to try and fix it, but I am lost at this point and cannot really afford to tow it and put it in the shop. Any ideas or thoughts would be so appreciated. By the way, Merry Christmas!
i put lucas cleaner in it and after 1/4 tank gas car wont stay running
I have a 1997 Tahoe that I just replace the fuel pump in. The plug to the pmup was melted inside the tank. I replace the pump and wireing to the pump but now the truck stull won't start. I bypassed the relay and still nothing. I can't find a fuse anywere.
What should I look for next?
I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe and it will not start, just turns over. About a month ago, I had it towed to a shop and they put it on the diagnostic machine and the machine read the fuel pump was bad, they re did the test and it said that it was good, so they replaced the fuel filter. I have problems with it again, It will not start unless I have a little more than a 1/2 tank of gas and I run into the problem only in the mornings. It now will not start at all,.
I drove my 2000 Taho to town and back, parked it in the garage, about an hour later I went to move it, turned the key , the truck started for a second sputered twice and died. It just turns over fine but will not start.
I cked all fuses and can hear the fuel pump when I turn on the key. ??
