The important thing now is, Do you really have gas in it? Check the fuel rail pressure and get that taken of, then check all grounds pertaining to the gauge assembly in the tank, and the dash grounding...accordianman

Almost all fuel pumps on all of the newer cars and truck are located inside the fuel tanks. I'm no expert but I'll bet your Durango will have to have the gas tank removed to replace the fuel pump so make sure the tank is as empty as possible if you attempt to do it yourself.
The float mechanism (or fuel level sender) on your fuel pump may be stuck or damaged. Attached is a digram of a typical fuel pump that is located inside the gas tank of your Dodge Durango.
You will need to remove your gas tank and pull out the old fuel pump to see if this is the problem. If you do this I would replace the fuel pump with a new one.
check to see if getting fuel or if you smell gas when cranking if you smell gas you probably have a spark problem which will probably be a coil and or a pickup coil in your distributor replace coil and then distributor. If you are not getting gas most likely fuel pump in tank see if it will fire on starting fluid then replace fuel pump good luck
