The ignition coil may be getting hot and not working. The coil is oil filled and when the oil gets hot it quits.

Wont start after running for a while. service lights work, radio, headlights but wont crank. just replaced starter, got new battery about a month ago. after 5-8 hours car starts with no problems.

Hot does make a difference. You say it won't start, but does it crank and not start, or not even crank? If cranks but will not start, any electrical part may fail as it heats, and when you shut it off the engine gets much hotter since coolant is no longer circulating. Thus, a marginal crank or cam sensor, or coil/ignition module may work while cold of while engine is running, but fail when you first turn car off.

Engine cold can not start

runs hot,ok, restarts hot ok
just dont start , cold, but it must because how do you get to 2hours?
from hot?
my guess, is it sometimes does start cold.
ever tune it up at the critical 60k mile service, ever, this decade?
that covers 99% bad cold starts. so , we do that first.
diagnosis is like 10x a tune up, so........ $$$$$

Hot Starting Problem

hard starting problems when engine hot could be restricted air filter.restricted clogged fuel injectors.engine could either be diesel or gasoline.if engine dont start and starter wont turn over engine. could have bad battery ground cable or battery positive cable could have broken place when cable get hot crack increases cause less current engine wont have enough power to turn over.

I have a 99 grand am and it is hard to start when it is hot. but runs fine when it starts up.

the electrical system can age-solenoids, modules etc wear--they get hot and cause problems--hav car scanned for codes-dont rely on a chec engine lite--

Car only starts when cold. is it a bad solenoid?

If the car starts when cold and dose not start when hot then a few problems come to mind
1 Has the car overheated if yes then the problem is you are down on compression .
2 The fuel pump in the tank is weak in pressure and hasent got the pressure when hot after being going for a while.
3 Coils when hot drop to about 10volts.
4 If car turns over but dont fire then the solenoid is good.Starter motors
good it still points to lack of compression
BUT if car dont turn over then its either battery/or starter or if you hear a click then its the SOLENIOD.
Let me know how you get on . Ron

Runs fine for approx 15 mins, then stalls out and wont start again

sounds like coil problem, coils will start cold then get hot and stop. when coil cools will crank up and run till it gets hot, try to replace the ignition coil, dont think it would be a crank sensor, try a coil, thanks robert b.

My car when the sun hit, dont start

Do you mean you have trouble starting it when it is hot outside? If so get the battery checked first, heat and cold stress the battery.

If you mean you lose power as you drive when its hot out, that is a whole other problem.
Good Luck
