Try checking for a headlight harness that belongs to the 89 and match it, or look for one online. Conversions can change the harness sometimes. You don't have to cut any wires. If you cut wires, sometimes you will have a bigger problem than you thought.

Can you get rid of the catalictic converter on a 87 2h dr 2.8 ltr truck

The cat converter is mainly for emission controls. If you are in a state that does not due emission tests like I do(MN), you can remove that cat conv with no problems other than a little more polution.

89 gmc f150 v6 chugging out like its gona die

F150 is a Ford model truck, not GMC.
But at any rate, since I don't know if you have a Ford F150 of some kind, a 87 GMC S15 or some kind of 89 GMC with a V6 I will suggest taking the ignition module to an Auto Zone and having them test it (A free service). Also test the fuel pressure.
If a tune up and fuel filter has not been done in some time that could very well be an issue.
