Question about 2000 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

2000 intrepid I checked the ground's I could find no change. I hooked the sterio back up and tried starting it, this time all it did was click click click, I then managed to get the car to spit out the ODS code P1684. I looked it up and got Contr. Unit programming communication error... what does that mean?

Can I use a diagnostic machine to confirm that it is the ECM/PCM?

  • Veinot Jun 14, 2008

I got it hooked up to a computer this friday, the ECM is reporting to the computer and it registers the engine is turning over. The Crank sensor and cam sensors are working I'm still getting no spark. Error P1648 is no longer present and "no bus" has not shown up either. Engine turns over but there is no spark... is there anything else that might cause the pistons not to fire? Just before it died the oil light came on but it has lots of oil... if the oil pressure sensor is out could that cause no spark?

You have an internal problem with the ECM. I had the very same thing with an 01 Concorde. I replaced the ECM and restored communication and car started.

If the oil pressure switch is bad it could give a false signal to the ECM and the computer will shut the engine down. What machine are you using to do your data stream. If it's a Snap On MT2500, That's what I use, Make sure the cam and crank sensors are in sync.

2000 olds drove to work fine this morning this afternoon it would not CRANK, just a load starter/solenoid click. changed starter this afternoon, still same load click, checked battery volts 12.6 , cleaned...

This might noy be of much help, buy I would try a remote starter switch hooked up to the starter, with the ignition switch in the run position..then push the remote start switch.
This would give you an idea if the ignition switch is a part of the problem

When i turn the key to the on position it makes a clicking sound is than the starter and the head light will not come on

Sounds like a dead battery. Do your interior lights come on? Does your horn work? I have a 2000 Intrepid and changing the battery was a real pain in the ****.

Under the hood should be a Jump start /charging post that is connected to the battery. Look on the pass side for rubber caps that cover a brass post. Hook up your charger here, Red is positive, Black is the ground side or just hook the ground to any solid metal part of the engine.

1994 Dodge Intrepid clicks before starting

Weak battery or flaky starter solenoid. Check the condition of the wires betwixt the battery and the starter solenoid first. Also check the ground wire(s).

2000 Intrepid turns over no spark

"No Bus" usually means you have a bad ground. Check the condition of the battery ground, clean it if necessary. Check other grounds as well.
