I have a 2006 Mazda3. I noticed whenever my air conditioner or heat is on it makes a sound like a lawn mower when I acceralate. Any ideas of what this could be ?

Well, I think you can rule out the AC/heater fan inside the car. That would make noise even just sitting in the driveway.

Many/most vehicles are designed to run the AC compressor not only when the AC is on but also when the defroster is on. This is to keep the AC compressor lubricated through the winter months also.

It should not be a belt problem as that belt is always turning anyway which should then rule out the pulley bearing at the AC compressor.

I do suspect your problem is a major internal failure of the AC compressor. This can be easily checked by a technician [or yourself if qualified]. Locate the electrical connector at or to the AC compressor. Two people: With the AC turned on, in park, increase the engine speed so you can here the noise. Disconnect the AC compressor electrical connector. If the noise stops instantly, the compressor has failed. A quite expensive repair. Have a reputable shop locate a re-manufactured compressor for you. That will help some on the cost.
Bestaluckto you!!

My 2003 V6 was making a chirping noise. it was diagnosed that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. I sprayed a conditioner on it (was told to try this first). The noise went down but it still makes...

Serpentine belts are very durable , however they do need replacement from time to time. Chirping is caused by slippage which should NEVER happen exept when engaging air conditioner or high power items that put a load on the alternator. The belt is loose or one of the pully wheels it turns is having issues with a bearing--(its not turning freely) or the wrong belt was installed in the past.

Listen carefully where the chirp originates ie Power steering, alternator, Air cond-pump-, steady bearing or spring loaded tension wheel. If the belt looks good and feels firm and tight---the problem is one of the items listed.
Also check belt is lined up perfectly on its wheels and has not jumped over a notch or two. it visual!!

I have a 1999 saturn SL and I'm having problems with it over heating when I have the air conditioner. It make noise when I shift in to another gear while the air conditioner is on. It sound like it's...

Yur transmission and your air conditioner are not in common. For your over heating problem check the engine coolant. Make sure the engine is cooled down prior to doing this. You will want to check the coolant levels in both the radiator and the over flow tank. The over flow tank will have marks indicating where the coolant levels should be when the engine is either hot or cold. Alot of engine noises will be heard through the vent ducting because they go to the engine compartment
Good luck:O)
