My 2004 Chevy Equinox has 50,000 miles on it and my ac is not working properly. According to the dealer, they want $900.00 plus to repair this claiming I need a new condensor. I asked them if this was normal for the condensor to fail as I've never had to do this before with a vehicle. They claimed NO it is not normal at this mileage however, the price remains the same. I think I am getting ripped off.

Re: Chevy Equinox ac repair
Not likely anything wrong with ur condensor unless they did some damage to it or the car was in accident & besides the only thing wrong with it could be it leaking at lines which just need new o ring i would go else where

1) don't these cars come with a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty? if so take it to a dealer
2) if not under warranty I would replace the washer fluid lines coming from the washer fluid reservoir. something has become disconnected and fluid is not getting to the nozzles. you may need a repair manual to show you how to get to them.

I have same issue. I took to Chevy dealer they could not find problem (whats new) then I took to trusted mechanic.
They measured voltage at compressor and found out when idle the voltage dips below manufacturer specs, then when RPMS go up it gets more juice so the compressor then starts to work properly.
Chevy claims its made that way to extend compressor life.
This is common problem with some GM vehicles. I would go to the dealer and see if they can help you even if it is out of warranty. Your vehicle only has 24,647 miles so it is obvious there was a manufacturing defect. They may repair it out of warranty as a courtesy to you. It is done all the time. Honda just replaced the radio in my car that was out of warranty at no charge. Be pleasant and ask for help. If the dealer refuses then ask for the phone # of the district manager. Call them and if they refuse then you have no choice but to have it repaired and pay of it. Just make sure you tell them this is the last GM vehicle you will ever buy. Immediately get rid of this vehicle as you will have this problem again.
on a DIS ignition system there are many things that can cause it, i would check the plugs the wires and the coil packs in that order, if the plugs have any wear at all replace them first and check the rest of it before going any further. Only use recommended plugs or autolite double platinum plugs do not use any of the fancy expensive plugs they do not work
